Stallion, as I posted earlier, I think an argument could be made that the last 4 years of SMU BB were the worst 4 years in school history.

We now lose our most productive player from this team and you tell us no players from this upcoming class can help us in the next few years???

That is saying a lot given our 268 RPI ranking.

Anyone want to challenge him on that statement?

One would think that we would focus on recruiting raw kids in Texas. I mean, if he is an all star, of course you take him (but then, why aren't the West Coast schools after him?). But, I just don't see why we wouldn't try to build relationships with the Texas coaches.

In my mind, this type of recruiting is one of the strangest things about the Tubbs era.

With only five guys playing at once, you can't build your recruiting effort around projects. Once in a while, you take one, if you see enormous "upside" (god, i hate that word), but for the most part, you have to go with productive HS players. Coach Tubbs has relationships with HS coaches, and he has to keep working them until we start to reel in better players.

Although a team with second tier players and projects can on rare occasions go to the final four when those second tier players and projects learn to play together over a four/five year period of time. (See George Mason). That said, do we have the patience to wait for this year's freshman class to become seniors.

Ok, you guys are successfully drawing me offsides again. First, does Tubbs really have that good of a relationship with local coaches???? I am talking present tense. Second, even if he does, the word is out on him. The players don't like him. High school coaches can talk favorably about Tubbs till they are blue in the face but.......... the kids listen to the current players and the word is not good. That might be ok if you had assistants that the kids really liked or respected but no luck there either..............

Ok, apologists, dog pile time on the Friar.

I thought the players liked Lineberg. When he was interim head coach after Dement got the axe, they played very well under him and most said they really liked him. Has he turned into an ogre under Tubbs? When you generalize your argument sounds like you're back braying at the moon.

Are you a current student? Do you talk to the players? What did they tell you? Why do they dislike him?

generalizing the argument? the players don't like tubbs, they talk to the local hs players telling them that they don't like him and there isn't an assistant coach on the staff that makes the players want to tell their buddies in school that maybe there is a better day coming. sounds pretty succinct to me but if it doesn't to you, i'll condense it. the players don't like that Jimmy T koolaide that you find so irresistable and they don't mind telling their friends to explore any and all other options...........................

where is hoop fan?

i heard the same thing about tubbs from an another source. don't forget - we still have an investigation going on as well...I would think it would be highly unlikely Copeland would give him an extension before he leaves...why would he?

anyway, how are we going to magically score next year?

I am sure he is trying - just getting outrecruited by everyone else...especially by Drew and Gillespie. Facilities do help regardless of what you think.

Winning couldn't hurt either. Nothing like visiting a school when 1,000 people are in a brand new 15,000 seat arena.

It is not facilities. Before we even discuss new facilities, we should change our athletic model and find coaches who can win games. That way, when they are built, they will be filled.

Do any of you remember the recruiting expectations that Ford promised? Without changes to the model, nothing has changed.

Y'all can drink the facilities kool-aid, but I will stick to advocating for things that will actually help us win.

Don't believe I am drinking any koolaide to simply ask you where you got the information. I am assuming therefore, from your answer, that you are a student and actually talk to the players!

I haven't said anything about the players relationship to the coach. I have no knowledge, somebody else here seems to have some knowledge. Friarwolf is the one making those comments.

I do know that he hasn't been getting the players he promised when he took the job.
