What school in their right mind would release the Burgergate allegations to the paper making themselves look like fools, instead of the "serious" ones?
Only SMU my friend, only SMU. Carl Spagler would have handled this better. This is a giant load of bullcrap. And Noonan, I have made some allegations because I am mad. Sorry it happens, But isnt it ironic that Jimmy Tubbs can have is whole career ruined over allegations, yet you dont seem to give a damn about a man being treated fairly? Your worried about hurting a multimillionaires feelings? Who gives a damn, Max should be under the microscope and held accountable to somebody. This whole thing stinks to high heaven.

if he didn't commit any violations why isn't he saying so. Why does he have no comment? Why is he letting Copeland say things like the above statement that will only hurt his coaching futrue?

probably because he wanted the freakin buyout. He probably got threatened with a firing with cause based on allegations. Do you think Tubbs has the wherewithal to fight a legal battle with SMU or Max? Gimme a break, this is the real world Danny, not Bushwoods. For what its worth, I have heard Tubbs adamently denied any major wrongdoing. He cant say anything if he wants to keep that buyout.

I highly doubt given all the lee-way given to Bennett that Copeland, and Turner by extension, are being capricious in their termination of Tubbs. It is possible, but I really just doubt it. Implicit in these last comments is the belief that Tubbs did indeed intentionally and willfully break the rules. There is at least remote credibility in postulating that he did. His tenure at a scandal-laden OU program certainly looks more prejorative and not in his favor than before, regardless of whether he was involved or not.
Assuming that he did indeed willfully break the rules, the fact that Tubbs played fast and loose enough to get busted for just the little things we know about boggles my mind. SMU suffered the most agregious penalty in the history of the NCAA. Nevermind it was a different sport; what the hell could he have been thinking? I mean, this isn't carrying on about models and level playing field, etc. This is simple common sense. Don't break the rules. Don't even allow the appearance of breaking the rules...EVER. What part of "Hey, it's the rules, Stupid?" did this guy miss? And any rationalization that this is racism (there's a nod to you, Kevin Blackistone & DISD) or that the rules are trivial and shouldn't apply completely misses the point.

Doesn't matter, you still don't break the rules, no matter how minor they are, they just invites futher speculation.

That's what I was wondering. With all this talk about how Tubbs could have been fired w/o compensation if he had committed "serious" violations, then why was he getting a complete buyout of his remaining two years?

I'm sorry, it does matter. Rules are broken everyday in your job, my job and people care about the difference between major and minor.

yea, i mean really. God forbid you give a kid some laundry detergent or something to eat. I hope our coaches are not so afraid of the rulebook that they wouldnt give a kid some laundry detergent. Might as well send people to the gas chamber upon their fifth speeding ticket. Sounds fair to me, rules are rules.

I've asked it several times and no one seems to have an answer or theory on that.

Izzat so?
You want to test that theory? Knock yourself out, big boy.
And while you deign to compare the line that separates major and minor infractions in your vocation/profession vs. SMU NCAA compliance, please inform us of where that is vis-a-vis a university athletic program which is a repeat offender under those regs, minor or otherwise. If your were likewise in your job, especially if you are a banker as I am, not only would you have been canned, you'd have spent some time with the OTS or OCC explaining to them your whole "major vs. minor" theory. If you want to feel molested, spend an afternoon with those fellows; you won't equivocate about "major & minor" anymore.
The NCAA may be a bunch of capricious, parochial, double-standard-bearing SOBs who may or may not camp out on a cup of detergent, but there is nothing unclear about the rules. And if Coach Tubbs is going to be a college coach, head or otherwise, then he abides by those rules. And I guaran-damn-tee you that is in his contract.

Now THAT is a good question...and it might even skewer my previous soapbox.
However, we don't know what that buyout actually is going to be, do we?
Frankly, if Tubbs did screw up real bad as Copeland is alluding, then that conversation may have been real short. And this might get legal. Ouch.

Per the DMN Article...
" SMU officials reached a contract settlement with Tubbs, paying him the remaining two years of his contract in full. Tubbs' attorney, Michael Pegues, did not return a call seeking comment."

Hmm. That, along with the investigation not being finished, might really make my missive a fool's errand. Great.
I dunno. Maybe it is Copeland getting back at the university by creating a big stink for the new AD.
Even so, I still stand by my opinions about "breaking the rules" and "major & minor rules". Tubbs either knew the rules, or he should have. If the investigation has established that he did violate the rules, then that's grounds.
DISD coaches have the cover they need to blame SMU and get off the hook for not producing for Coach Tubbs.
And Orsini gets to clean up Copeland's mess. Why am I not surprised at Jim Copeland?
And Blackistone has positioned himself to go either way with it.
Why am I not surprised at that either?
