The NCAA will never give the DP again, therefore, the NCAA should compensate SMU for it's share of Big XII revenue post SWC break up, because we should be in the Big XII instead of Baylor.

Had we not been given the DP, there is no proof that we would have been in the Big XII. Remember that there was a great deal of politicking going on, and Ann Richards was a Baylor alum. Bob Bullock was a Texas Tech and Baylor Law alum.

I propose the following:

The NCAA should compensate SMU for revenue lost from not playing football in the 1987 season (as estimated by taking 1986 football revenues and multiplying by inflation [as measured by the CPI] from 1986 to 1987). In addition, since SMU elected to cancel its 1988 season after the NCAA forbid them to have any home games that year, the NCAA should compensate SMU for home game ticket revenue only (in order to penalize SMU some), as estimated from the 1986 season multiplied by the inflation from 1986 to 1988.

The damages to SMU's program, as evidenced by its performance from 1989 onwards, should not be compensated for by the NCAA, as SMU would have otherwise received severe sanctions that would have also greatly damaged the program.

We cheated more than any other school in the history of the NCAA. We got caught. We got punished. Should we compensate other murderers because OJ went free? Different people, schools, animals, etc. get different treatment after similar acts all the time. We need to quit the whining, put it behind us and move on. I will say again as I have in the past, if you gave USC, UT, OU, UM, LSU, OSU (any of them) the DP, they would be back full speed within 5 years. Our recovery was by our own doing, not the NCAA. I am sorry it happened to us but we got what we deserved. Now we can continue to whine about other schools not getting it, or we can start to move forward and try to once again be good at a game at which we were once good.

Bad analogy. It's more like speeding. Everyone does it, but you can still get a ticket if you get caught. Others might have sped faster than us, but we just kept getting caught over and over by the same speed trap until our license got suspended. Then we spent 20 years driving like an old woman because we are afraid to go with traffic.

I will accept that. Not sure any went faster but there were plenty of speeders on the road. We had the red car and travelled with no one else around when the smokies were watching. Easy pickins.
