I've said for years that our biggest problem is the lack of a true college level scorer. Our current roster still doesn't have one......while McCoy is a complete player, he's not a true scorer. The last guy we recruited who I thought would be that guy was Derrick Roberts - he averaged close to 30 a game his senior yr in a good Houston area 5A district.

Agreed...That would be my infamous "slasher 2 guard" that people on this board don't get...

Q slowly developed into one and Sasser was the day he stepped foot on campus. We could use another Q or Sasser in the worst way. Maybe someone needs to hang around Kimball HS.

As of our current players, I would hope Haynes would take a small part of that role...He doesn't really seem to have the green light to take it to the hole...

I am so distraught by the basketball team losing that I don't know what to do. Should we just start trying to make men's soccer popular so we can look like a college sports powerhouse? Maybe it's time for a culture change, America!!!!

Sasser did nothing here - except ring up some stats. Same for Hopkins.

This is about inspiring a good group of players to come together as a team and WIN. Coaching is being left out of the equation.

Everyone's saying we just need a bunch of 5-star recruits! Yeah,that's the ticket! Well, hell, doesnt' everybody!?! (I could coach THAT team!)

Each year, the NCAA tourney features 3-4 teams full of players who, on paper, have no reason to be there. They simply play well together, are coached well and get it done.

No way we should lose to UAPB....

You're foolish with that statement. Sasser was named WAC Freshman of the Year, WAC Player of the Year as a Soph and was drafted in the 1st round by the Magic.....he was the best player on the best team we've had at SMU (basketball or football) over the past 15 years......but he did nothing here?

What did SMU do as a team during Sasser's tenure? Any championships? Any WAC tourney wins? (Maybe one?) Any trips to the NCAA tourney?

Halfway through Sasser's Junior year, he just quit developing. I have no idea why, but if I had to guess, it was ditching the 'fro for cornrows. I have no problem with the look of today's players, but Sasser had a great old school look that he was throwing down.

Yeah, the Magic drafted him in the first round, but that was a terrible pick in a terrible draft for them (and for the league overall). It was a real reach of a pick and I thought so at the time. Doc Rivers was responsible for that pick and that is all you need to know.

Oh yeah?. Well the Mustangs kicked the [deleted] outta the Irish in the '88 tourney on St. Patty's day. Kato Armstrong dunked all over David Rivers' punkin' head. The Irish went home. With no moral victory there.
