listen to our weakass fan base talk about not renewing after the program won 5 additional games. Did people just think we'd win 10 -12 extra games?

SMU lost me when they didn't give Dement what he needed to get over the hump-we were right there-just really don't care anymore. Irrelevant is the correct word. Doherty's non-conference schedule simply is an embarrassment. Don't know why anyone would buy season tickets. And to top it off Doherty can't even drill the pushovers further confirming that season tickets are a waste of money. Finally, lack of emphasis on Texas recruits and assistant coaches with local ties in his first few years doesn't create any local interest for me. I do see some positive directions-I like the assistant coaches he has now and I think the changes SMU has subsequently made in the Model make this a much more appealing job now. It is always a mistake to hire a Head Coach BEFORE you get your act together.

No, but I expect changes to be made after 4 seasons of absolute [deleted]. He can't pull big recruits, can't coach. Orsini's generic response infuriated me, he obviously has no clue. No offense to the long time die hards I see every game, who are no doubt the ones saying they will renew, but lets get real.

I'm shocked that many of you have bball season tix. That's a credit to all of you, I guess.
Made it to three games this year: USF, Memphis and went to one of the games when I was in Hawaii. Thanks to channelsurfing, I was able to see plenty of the rest of the schedule. Can't imagine going to any more than two or three games until things change.

The on court results stink, but he does tend to score decently rated recruits, see McCoy and Dia. This is a 2 and 3 star league w/a smattering of 4s, and we have our share of each. The current '10 class has several kids that are high 3s, possible 4s

4 Star equals National Top 100 at least on Rivals. I don't see much evidence that any of these 2010 kids are anything close. I saw ESPN pump up Smith but they have him rated far far away from a Top 100 kid. Not saying they are bad recruits-just don't think they are anything but your average 3 stars though. What have these guys done this year to deserve such praise-fill us in-the schools some of these guys are at have very little media coverage. But I do know that averaging 10 points per game at a small time lower level JUCO like Collin County isn't that big a deal.

I am not a great lover of basketball. If you top that off with empty seats, zero atmosphere, and less than stellar performances it dose make it a major beat down. There were two exceptions to that this year. I don’t need to tell you what games.

During this so called rebuilding time, I found it necessary to join the Secret Beer Drinkers Society. This group meets before each game and consumes what ever libation they choose. It was this time that I enjoyed the most. And it made the games a little more fun.

I will probably renew my tickets because I don’t want Mustang Bill to get them ha ha ha!
If for some reason I don’t. SMU will still get that $800.00 in football additional seats or parking tickets.

I know you will be there. Don't kid yourself. So will I. It is not about Doh, it is about supporting the kids and the athletic program. It will be painful, I am sure but hopefully a great football season will have us in a good mood as well as the Secret Beer Drinkers Society pre-game meeting.

Rival isn't really a viable basketball service. Decent database, no national writers, worst rankings yearly. Scout is better for hoops, and ESPN has invested the most into their service recently. Database is improving rapidly. Vilde & Smith's rankings are hampered by limited to no AAU play, which is where rankings jumps truly occur. Very few bump in hoops after high school seasons for good reason. Both kids were evaluated w/their prep schools, and have a very legit 3 star grade off limited viewings. Vilde plays w/ex-Desoto big, and 4 star Keith Davis. Ask Lee Academy's coach who is the better player or anyone in the NE prep league. Far more polished, stronger and skilled. Davis sits, Vilde plays. He's the most slept on player in this class. He plays w/Maxie Esho, a DC Assault kid, who was placed at Lee by Assault. When I asked one of their ops guys about Vilde, they said he's a 4 star talent, killing kids. Lee's head coach had schools from most BCS conferences inquire about Vilde only to be told he was SMUs

Similar situation w/Leslee Smith. He plays on a high school team w/8 or more D1 prospects, many high major. Before Javarez Willis started shooting every possession, Leslee was the best player on Humble Christian Life which included national top 100 junior, Chris Coleman. If Smith had played a national traveling circuit in AAU, he's have been a national 150 kid. hoopniks in Houston think he's a top 3-5 player in the city.

Your comment about Pats doesn't do him justice as a prospect.. He's a legit 3 star kid w/a highly defined group of skills. Had we not placed him at CCCC, and he just matriculated, he'd have been hugely recruited. CCCCs staff thinks he's a Big 12 level talent.

I will renew, I think it is part of my basketball commitment as a member of the Circle of Mediocre.

I've been thinking about this tonight. I don't know how much it costs for season tickets to the Women's games, but I think I may get some next year. I always enjoyed going to the women's games as an undergrad, plus they keep putting together winning teams. I'm disappointed that the they didn't win the conference or make it very far in the conference tourney. However, I can actually have hope that they may reach the NCAA's next year. If I can't justify supporting a bad program, I'd better be willing to support one that consistently does well. Anyone else with me?

Are you talking about the 8 people on this board who do 90% of the BB posts????

This was the 1st time in many many years I did not attend an SMU BB game, nor did I watch even 10 minutes on channel surf nor listen via the radio.

I believe I qualify as one of the 1,500, but I have simply lost my desire to follow this program. For me personally, it has been a rather easy transition to non-SMU bb fan.

Too bad because as a student during the Pony Express days I can tell you first-hand that a SWC game at Moody was just as rewarding as one at Texas Stadium.

I always buy one blue seat women's season ticket (only $10 a game) so I will probably buy two next year so Mestengo can sponge it off me. :)

Fortunately 10 minutes down the road you've got a really, really good professional team that is fun to watch...thus making SMU basketball just that much more irrelevant in town.
My Mavs season tickets mean a whole lot more to me these days than my SMU tickets!
