This is a weird thread. CUSA got low seeds and had to play the higher 4 and 5 seeds, which made it tougher to make progress. The Butler/UTEP game was a match up nightmare for UTEP with their style of play, heck SMU played them tough at UTEP with a similar tempo. Butler just got hot on their 3 point shooting.
Houston was in over their heads with a 19-15 record and going against Maryland? They played them ok and it wasn't an embarassing loss. If they hadn't of got hot in the CUSA Tournament they wouldnt be in any post season brackets, much less the NCAA.
UAB won in the NIT against NC State and faces last years NCAA Champion next and Marshall is in the quarter finals in the CIT.
I think its great that 5 CUSA teams went to the post season. The results are mixed we could say, but to compare to SMU is not germain.

I didn't expect Marshall to have so much trouble against Western Carolina, but they got through that game. I don't know enough about Appy State to have expectations about that matchup.

I fully expect UAB to lose to NC State.

Western Carolina was a bit streaky this year, but when on, they can really light it up...so Marshall's close call in a shootout didn't surprise me. I was surprised by UAB's blowout of NCSU. Otherwise, I think the CUSA teams have done about as expected in this postseason. I just hope UAB and Marshall can keep winning as long as they have home court.

Hmm...somehow, I think Moodymadmen will try to spin this to show that SMU sucks.

This board questioned virtually every move or lack of moves by Doh in all games well into the conference schedule. Specifically his substitutions and player combinations. I'm not sure you can say he was not that bad. For his experience and hype you certainly cannot give him very good grades.

Instead of showing me where he got out-coached, you revert to a tired, played out mantra, that really wasn't the case this year. Who schooled Doh on the bench this year? It's like listening to moodyman talk about needing a new coach, only to ask who, and he never answers.

Like I said, I've been very critical of Doh on the bench prior to this year, and had a better seat for the Carolina fiasco then most. I'm not blind, but case by case, he did a pretty good job on the bench this year. Substitution patterns were far worse the first 3 years. In fact, he really settled in this year, trimmed the rotation to 8-ish late in the year etc.

This board is mob mentality w/very few actual points, rotation issues are case and point.

it's Doh's fault, specifically his inability to get and maintain continuity on the staff

Kansas loses in the second round. They are worse than we thought.

Does that make Baylor worse that we thought, since Baylor lost to Kansas?

I guess the results go to show that CUSA is what we thought it was. The Pac-10 is much better than anticipated, the WCC is a powerhouse conference, while the Big XII and Big East are tremendously overrated.

News Flash...SMU bball DOES suck.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
