Who reads the paper any more? That won't reach anyone under 50.

I probably get 3 eMails a week from the SMU and COX alumni departments on everything from Bush Library to Continuing Education. Their contact lists seem to be up to date; can't the athletic department recruit these (and other) alumni groups to send out an email about this game...

BTW, bought my 4 tickets for the game!!!

I don't think the schools share that info. Cox doesn't want other schools diminishing its ability to uniquely fund raise from its alumni base. I don't necessarily agree with this, but I know schools are suffering from the new mandatory MC donation associated with tix.

Now that I have to donate about $4k to buy my tickets, that directly impacts how much I send to Cox.

Actually the school is really good about sharing info...

Any donation to any area counts towards century campaign...

Actually I'm on my 3rd term on the Cox Alumni Board. I know how hard the Cox school has worked to update it's records as I've participated in that effort. Those records are unique to Cox. I've brought this issue up to Knox and the Alumni Board in the past.

A 2 inch by 2 inch ad in the DMN costs less than $300. Out of the nearly 100,000 daily readers of the DMN, an ad should be able to bring in less than 1/2 of 1 percent of the readership into the gates at Moody, especially on a Friday night when many people are looking for family-friendly entertainment. If we can't do that, we should shut the program down.

Little or no money is allocated for marketing, and it has been that way for a couple of years now. If you would like to underwrite the cost of a DMN ad, I'm sure they would accept your donation.

Budget is only an excuse if you are short-sighted. A $500 ad pays for itself if it brings in even 50 people.

Now, we're going to be 4k ahead (31000 for hosting rather than 35000 for a charter...and I bet Cali airport fees are higher than those in Iowa, so 35k is the low end). No reason that 4,000 can't go into advertising.

A) There's no guarantee that an ad brings in 50 people.
B) Someone still has to pay for the ad (see the absence of a marketing budget).
C) $500 in the DMN would bring an ad that is maybe the size of a postage stamp. How many will that bring?

DallasNews.com ads are also an option.

Why not a tv ad like they have for football? I know it's expensive but it would remind Dallas that we are still playing.

But my big thing is student attendance. The dorms should be empty on Friday night.

someone remind me when the WAC 16 was rolling along...there were two games I remember us being the 10pm "Big Monday" game on ESPN. Seems like it was TCU and UNLV...student attendance was very strong then. Didnt they roll a loveseat/couch down on the baseline and have a contest where the students could win those seats?

Couch potatoes
(potatoe = Dan Quayle  )

Does the Mustang Band ever play outside from atop the Rotunda? I know there are doors onto porches/balconies up there. Maybe a few rounds of "Peruna" and some bullhorn announcements would generate a buzz/curiosity. Heck, bring real Peruna on campus Thursday and Friday wearing a sandwich sign promoting the game... anything. (the previous ideas are free) Anybody?

Fresno State with Tark the Shark were also well attended games here...Chris Herren was the combo guard that was a great draw for them

The other problem is that there is another Tournament going on with games on Friday.
The average basketball fan would rather watch Kansas, UNC, UK, Ohio State.......than SMU Santa Clara.

I agree. this makes me think an advertisement is going to add more fuel to the edgeofmyseat and stallion fires more than it is going to round up students or Dallas area basketball fans who have already decided on their sports bar for Friday night.

Doh needs to do one of his DormStorming drives. Hang fliers in every building, fraternity house, dorm, etc. Win the students. It will be too little, too late to try to convince Dallas basketball fans to skip the NCAA tournament games.
