We'll see if the next year's schedule follows that or if we'll have more games with Dallas Christian, Paul Quinn, etc.
Kansas plays Pittsburg State, Emporia State, etc. Nearly everyone plays a cupcake schedule. Bring in Hardin-Simmons, McMurry, and the SWAG schools who have to raise their money through guarantee games. Go 6-0 and then have Duke come to town. We are no different than anyone else. Win 20 - let's see the next time we do that.

You lost all credibility with those two thoughts.
Thanks, my niece is a cheerleader. I will pass that on to her parents who pay $52,000 a year to go to SMU. The kiss cam people seem to love being on t.v. Do you ever see their smiles. You sour %%%.

He lost all credibility well before that.
Second land lord: My niece is a cheerleader at SMU and her parents pay $52,000 per year. The kiss cam people are always smiling and the pro's do similar things. You have nothing positive or insightful that you have ever posted. Hide behind that glass of alcohol.

Bergermeister wrote:harry callahan wrote:Here are some suggestions to improve attendance at basketball games for 2011-2012. I know we have worn out this subject in the past but here are some ideas. Lefty Drisell did this at James Madison and he had the place rocking several years ago. Let a marketing class get credit for promoting attendance at sporting events at SMU. Lefty started the Zoo Cage. Every student had their ticket scanned at the game and was given credit for attendance. In today's climate, you can text every student, faculty member, and supporters to remind them of tonight's game.
You also need to have a committee put together that has a master plan to "sell seats" starting from September 1, 2011 until the October 1, 2011 (example). You should have a master seating chart and "see" who is assigned to each seat. Hey, set a record for season ticket holders. The band is great, cheerleaders are wonderful, and product on the floor this year was special. Bring in the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders for a game and sell the place out. Bring in the Budlight Dare Devil group. SMU has got some great looking ladies to "spot" on the floor seats - hey, that doesn't hurt. Sell, sell, and then sell out. Ok - blast away
Bergermeister - Lincoln and Edison failed a couple of times themselves before they got things right.
P.S. Like the kiss cam, special groups, and love coach Doh making his entrance shaking hands
All of your suggestions are positive/constructive... and you didn't just complain; you offered a solution. We've tried every one of those things (in some form) at one time or another. If you don't put a winning product on the court, they ain't coming back. And they didn't.

Please pass this on to them. Tell them if she was skinnier and cuter she probably could have gotten a scholarship and not cost them $52,000/year.

It will never happen. Any body have any other ideas? Blast away
I want nothing to do with any of those schools save Northwestern, Tulsa, and maybe Baylor. Get us the hell away from dead weight like Rice and Tulane. Schedule Rice once a year in both sports for an OOC win, and be done with it.
Good input! Don't know about Rice in football but Perry Clark had Tulane rocking in basketball and Ben B is an absolutely wonderful basketball coach. He could do what they did at Air Force in basketball several years ago - picked last in the league, won the league and finished in the sweet 16. One of our assistant coaches this year at SMU was on that staff.

Good. I like Junior. I put you with EastTexasFan and MustangsFan3030. You make up random lies to shut down discussions like your niece is a cheerleader, your mom was killed by a drunk driver, or you're actually part of a covert psychological study designed at infiltrating PF.com while pretending to be a racist redneck.

we are always going to have some "cupcake" games. I'd like to see more home/home (one for one in return) series with teams, but unless we solve the attendance problem, those games can be tough to schedule (economically). No reason not to be scheduling UNT and UTA every year. Not high profile games, but at least there would be some local interest. I'd rather we do home/home series with La Tech and Missou State than playing the Paul Quinns of the world. I think we are always going to see someone from the Southland Conference, like it or not...but even those guys are now looking for home games in return from us.
Charleston Pony - You always have some good thoughts and I appreciate that. UNT AND UTA would probably be good home games. I just would not go on the road and play anyone. That is what Don Haskins did at UTEP for years. He didn't leave El Paso until January and always went 23-6 or around there and made the NCAA. We have gone to Dayton, Northwestern, etc on the road and lost. We won back in the days when Bliss cheated and we had all that talent and those players who never received their degrees from SMU.

Bergermeister - good observations and thank you for your comments. Remember Lincoln and Edison failed many times before they became successful. What about Clinton? He lost his re-election to become Governor of Arkansas and then won and became President. Let's try it again. I failed to mention that everyone had a Zoo Cage shirt on at the games at James Madison. For a so called mid-major, the attendance was consistently outstanding. Another thing they did - if you were a student and could not make the game - give your I.D. to someone else and have it scanned and you got credit for being there.

Oh yeah. How is it that in these the glory years of your program, with an enrollment of 30,000 or something, yall average about 3500 at home? I dont think UNT would bring 5,000 to Moody. http://www.ncaabbs.com/showthread.php?tid=481844

Every thought does not require a separate post. Less is more, let the game come to you. Seems like once a year we get one of these drive by prolific posters that fades away in a few weeks, that can't come soon enough with this guy.
Although you're combative, I won't single out your niece, but I will say the kiss cam and the cheerleaders are the two worst parts of any SMU game presentation. Those "smiles" are actually nervous failed smiles and the kiss cam was tired 10 years ago when the pros and real schools stopped doing it. The cheerleaders are a disgrace and couldn't be less concerned about the game that is taking place. I put equal blame on the coach, if there even is one.
All of your ideas have either been tried or suggested before, I've offered up tons of my own. Gimmicks won't work for two reasons: this isn't Ames, Iowa (or Denton) where shtick attracts people because they have no other options, and don't forget we don't have a marketing department so there is no one to think up or pull off gimmicks.

Why we won't schedule North Texas! I recommend to posters that you google the name Lester Earl Basketball player. This Baton Rouge high school phenom lasted 11 games at LSU before he was suspended. He transferred to the University of Kansas soon afterward probably recruited by assistant coach Matt Doherty. While at Kansas, Earl said that an LSU Assistant Coach ( Maybe Johnny Jones now at North Texas or maybe not) gave him $5,000. The NCAA quickly began an investigation. LSU was placed on probation in 1998. Hey North Texas guy, I bet LSU averaged 24 wins per game and had a high RPI also. Coach Doh isn't going to schedule a game with that guy. Is it not amazing what you can do with no academic standards and paying players?

To RE Tycoon, back in the 1960's when the Dallas Cowboys first got started and no one was attending the games, Tom Landry, Gil Brandt, and Tex Schramm were "locked away" brain storming and Tex said, I am tired of all this fan mail in the lockers. Gil said "let's hire a secretary and have her answer every letter and put a Dallas Cowboy key-chain or pen in the envelope. Years later Lance Rentzel's girl friend Joey Heatherton stepped out of a limo in Thousand Oaks with white boots and a SHORT mini-skirt on. Tex said that is how our cheerleaders should dress. Those "Gimmicks" certainly didn't work as the Cowboys became America's team.
