Band plays for 16 seconds, getting through the first eight measures of Crazy Train which would have fired the students/fans up if only they had been able to go through more of the intro
Game is restarted

This is really my only complaint, don't do commercials during the media time outs, that whole time should be spent with the cheerleaders/dance team on the floor and the band playing, to either generate or maintain momentum. Just taking care of this would add a lot to the presentation without getting all glitzy like the NBA.

I think you are the first pony fan requesting less marketing.

Not requesting less marketing, just requesting that you don't burn 80 percent of a media time out reading advertisements, that is the time for the band to play and the cheerleaders/dance team to do their thing, like almost any other university does.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

At this point, they can dance to the band playing the armor hot dog song if it raises money sufficient advertise To students on campus.

However, I was thrilled with the student attendance on Friday.

 Spot on.

Anyone notice when the pom squad lined up to dance and the PA guy continued to read advertisements?? Then the buzzer rang and the players walked onto the court only to leave the pom squad awkwardly running off without dancing. I was laughing pretty hard at that one.

So happy that Moody is finally getting renovated...I've never really noticed how old it looks until Friday night. That awkward emtpy space behind one of the nets is terrible...still love the place though. Can't wait to see some larger crowds in the Big East

-Music: literally no music is played during timeouts (w/ exception to band). I am so sick of watching weaksauce commercials or advertisements. I could literally hear the pom poms shaking it was so quiet. At some points, it was even awkward. PLAY MUSIC, not hard. And not the elevator music, give me ACDC or something. Boost the volume too.
-We need sound effects. For example, a made free throw has a cash register sound, etc. Is it legal in college to play beats while on defense?
- Starting lineups...wow this is weak. I hope with our renovations that we can turn off the lights and have spotlights, lasers, etc. Right now it is just flat out boring.

There is more but you get the point. Thoughts or suggestions?

understand where you're coming from; however, some of your complaints are the idiocracy of sports.

Agree. We have a band. Let them play. Make a few announcements. Thank a few donors. I hate the loud music, laser rays, smoke, explosions, etc. I go to the game to watch the game and look at the cheerleaders.

Flashing lights, louder music, more stuff

SMU just doesn't get game presentation. It is the same issues every year and the majority of the time Moody feels like a morgue. Hopefully things change when the renovation is complete, but I'm not holding my breath.

The Lil' Mustangs cheerleaders stuff kills me. So small-time, so high school...so small-time high school. As our programs have grown and try to reach wider audiences, there must be a core group of people connected with gameday presentation that are fighting to keep it "HP" because sometimes it just seems so awkward and forced, like we've out-grown this but here it is anyway.

the average age of attending fans is 68 and this seems to surprise you?

I'm not sure I see your point. Are 68 year olds running our game day presentation? Or are you saying we design our presentation to please the 68 year old crowd? Why? Because they are more likely donors and they want to see their grand-babies dance on the court? No wonder we have such a droll game day atmosphere. It isn't a basketball game, it's day care mom and a visit with Pa-Pa.

He was responding to someone who was saying that we draw a younger crowd and need to adjust our game presentation thusly.

Hence at 68 avg age, we don't draw a younger crowd.

And short of having LMFAO play after the games it won't change until we are winning consistently.

And my point wasn't that we need to get Billboard 100 singers doing half-time shows, we simply need to adjust our game day presentation to be more in line with what EVERYONE ELSE IN OUR CONFERENCE is able to put on. We don't need an entire youth overhaul, just part with the old-school, small-time, HP fluff.

Instead of Lil' Mustangs we need UFC at breaks to draw a younger crowd.

We could just do away with basket ball all together and just have UFC.

There's a Pay-per-view this weekend, I could record it, so we can play it back on the jumbotron.

Yeah, but don't the parents of those kids pay for the honor of seeing their kids out there dancing with our pom squad or something? If it's a sponsored deal, then ... I don't like it, but I can see why it's done. SMU isn't in a position to be turning away potential revenue.

As for the overall in-game experience, I hate to say this, but we can learn from North Texas State (I was at the women's game tonight).

• You could understand the PA announcer! Very strange, but true. We should have our soccer guy do the football and basketball games, because you can understand him. The guy at Moody is horrible.
• The PA announcer didn't talk while the band was playing, and vice versa. They also don't pipe in other music to compete with what their band played or what their PA guy was saying.
• PA announcer read scores of other games (and could be heard/understood).
• I love the Mustang Band, but it's time to update the music. I know, there's tradition involved, etc., but NTSU's band was fantastic, and played music that picked up the crowd. I found myself almost tapping my foot. Two SMU fans in front of me actually started clapping along with the NTSU band. (I can't say much for their band's heckling skills, though. There's an art to it, and they don't get it. They just regurgitate the same insults over and over and over. Not funny or clever, especially the 462nd time around.)
• Their dance/pom/whatever squad was good -- maybe not TCU-good, but good, and they played to the crowd.

The lighting in Moody is better than it is at the SuperPit, but the overall in-game experience is better at NTSU.
I really shouldn't drink and type.
