Could Mangino handle head coaching duties the rest of the season?

If Zack Line can coach the RBs, I'll bet he could do as good of a job as Doh for this team. I hate that our basketball team has not done anything since 1993 (the year I graduated). I have a kid now for *** sake.

I think the way this movement really starts is when the big money people (i.e. David Miller) decides Doherty is no longer the answer.

Last night was a bad loss, but I'm not stressed about Doh. I just feel calm about the whole thing because Doh or no Doh, the program is heading to a good place. This is the season for him to show if he's the guy to take us forward. As some have already said, its a long season and we'll see what the finished product looks like in March. If Doh gets the job done. . .great. If not, I think Orsini will pull the trigger and bring in someone new. The timing of the BE move is perfect for making a change this off-season if necessary. That gives the new coach a season of C-USA ball to put a system in place before the move.

I like Doh and I think he's done some good things with the program. Unfortunately, it has yet to translate into a consistent on-the-court product. If he can move this thing foward this year, I'll be happy. If he can't, I'm still happy because we've got a lot of talent on campus for the new guy and I'm confident Orsini will make a big hire. After all, he'll be selling a Big East program.

Program has stunk for a long time. Doh is just not the guy to fix things.

I'm not going to stick up for Doh on here, but I'm going to disagree with moodymadmen on pure principle...he was nowhere to be found during 20 game season last year

For those who think last night's game was a 'shocker', including of course the DMN, a little perspective here.

Sagarin currently has SMU ranked 232 (Jackson State is ranked 272).

Point being we have stunk so far this season, so any loss would not be that big a surprise. Now if we beat Okie St, ranked 64th, THAT will be a shocker

Sagarin for basketball sucks. Use RPI realtimerpi.com

Before yesterday we were like 230 in RPI and JSU was 250 or so.

Now they are 175 and we are 304 (the huge jump/drop has to do with what else happened in basketball yesterday as well). We are predicted to lose 65-60 to SEMO.

JSU loss was not as bad of a loss as the losses to USC-Upstate and Arkansas-Pine Bluff, neither of whom were above 300 when we played them, were.

So the difference between us and J-State was 40 spots per Sagarin and 20 per RPI.

Either way, no big upset.

Exactly

Comment about using RPI instead of Sagarin refers more to a general rule, not this specific circumstance...we used to have to use Sagarin before all of the sites doing daily RPIs came out. Now we have the formula.

And RPI really isn't that great either until January. Too much fluctuation going on right now as teams haven't played enough games yet.

its even more depressing to think it wasn't even an upset to lose to Jackson State. It was though, if you saw the talent difference, we had no business losing that game. JSU got hot shooting for the same reason all teams get hot shooting, our defense was soft and we gave them good looks. We didn't deny the fat kid from getting the ball in the paint and he ate us up. Not to mention their freshman running wild scoring from everywhere on the floor. The one thing i will say about JSU is they challenged us and played physical with us all night until we backed down or got lazy in the second half.

Soooooo, the hero / guru / best thing since pockets on pants status 97.4% of you "bball PF experts" pinned on Doh after the brillant CSIT run last season has already faded? Interesting....
