They let him "retire" to save face. Make no mistake about it: they forced him out.

In hindsight, I think it was pretty smart. Dickey has had Big 12 success in the past, and is a proven recruiter. He lacks BCGs skeleton's and to be honest, he never flamed out like BCG did at Kentucky. I think BCG gets more love in Texas b/c of his UTEP/A&M stints, but his stint at Kentucky was legendary bad. Also, he's had a bunch of run-ins at Tech already.

I don't know. Dickey's a good recruiter but Houston didn't need a solid hire, they needed a "wow" hire. Their butts-in-seats problem in basketball is worse than ours and try as Dickey might, his recruiting success will run out when recruits see that they will be playing in front of 25 humans and a few hundred rats at Hofheinz.

Okay 2 season but still like you said it is time for Doh the perform. I dont know of many coaches that get 6 season to merely obtain mediocrity.

How many do you know that inherited a program perceived as racist in certain grassroots circles?

He was coming off an NCAA berth so it wasn't like he was embarrassed with the final result.

True but they got into the NCAAs sort of as a fluke after Mack Rhoads had already decided to get rid of Penders

Indeed, the tournament season was the worst season of his tenure aside from that cinderella berth!!!
