Travis Butter Brickle needs to take his rose colored glasses off and get a reality check with his Doh infatuation. Simply put, and solely based on wins and losses, Doh is failing miserably. The team shows a clear lack of motivation to play for someone who will not let them play to their full potential. They look over their shoulder knowing if they make one mistake, they will be jerked out of the game, screamed at, humiliated and scolded by you know who. Master movtivator... I think not.

2 Things:

Prof X, don't even get into it w/Bickle. It won't improvethe quality of your life.

Second, I'd heard there are pretty serious compliance issues happening currently, where Doh was cold-busted again. This time really badly & red-handed.

I don't care about small-time infractions and secondary violations, I care about product & marketing. We have underachieving product that has some pieces, but needs more. We have nothing to market, even IF the budgets existed. More than any other factor, you have to get what fan base there is excited and rallied. Most of us are running on empty.

I hate to be this way, cause it's so very unfair, but I'm not sure I can take SMU seriously, until they take themselves seriously. I have a hard time watching Frog, even during his good games, b/c even when he plays well, he's a reminder of how low we're shooting w/this current staff. He's hustler and a good little player, but come the eff on.

I get killed by DFW barbershop types about this stuff. The same guys who have always maintained Shawne Williams wasn't really very good. They get hysterical that Manuel sits, cause he's a high major athlete. All of them like Russell, warned about Giles etc. NOne of that matters, but results do, and I'm sick of this program chasing it's tail

Completely agree. Doherty is a great representative for our program, though. Would be great to have him head up the basketball booster organization that needs to be started, as Doh is a great fundraiser.

CalallenStang..there already is a SMU basketball booster organization. $1,000 each and has bigtime boosters.

Need to make it accessible to all. Recent alum? Give $100. That's $100 more than we would have otherwise.

You can (and I have) but like hoopmanx has said, most of the big programs have dedicated basketball booster orgs. If we want to be competitive in the Big East we need to have the infrastructure in place

We DO have one as I mentioned...its invite only and includes many of the bigger boosters and you can pay $500 for the first year to be involved and then $1,000 for subsequent years. They aren't after $100 donors for this group as the get together's are at coaches and boosters homes so would not be conducive to big groups of $100 donors, and as mentioned if you want to donate your dollars through The Mustang Club and have it go to basketball....you can.

Yeah I understand all of that...the org needs to be fleshed out is all. And I think Doh would be a great guy to head that up

EDIT: Here is an example of what I mean, this is from Kentucky's women's program. http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/kty ... ub_app.pdf

Mostly, these orgs tend to morph, especially w/a changing of the guard. The Lefty Driesell one at Maryland smelled nothing like the Gary Williams version, and Turgeons's Super 16 is entirely different. Same can be said at UNLV, College of Charleston, South Carolina and others I've seen. Out Big East version needs more than 'Yes men' that just give monetarily. That's not a shot at those fine folks, just that there are others better to offer constructive criticism

I didn't know College of Charleston had one...that must be how they've been able to have the success they've had

Good points and interesting idea but would it take away or conflict from the Mustang Club though? I have worked for the SMU Mustang Club for years and see where this could be an issue. The brochure is very similar to what we do at the Mustang Club with levels and benefits, etc.

C of C's success began under coach John Kresse, a former Lou Carneseca assistant at St Johns. Great coach, but also married a woman who oversaw admissions to the school. That certainly helped them get some "marginal" student athletes in through the years. Bball has been the focus (they play futbol in the fall), although the've built a decent baseball program as well.

I remember them having tremendous success under Kresse. Took a downturn after he left but they seem to be rebuilding under Cremmins

Maybe RBA could become sort of a stand-in. $100 might not get you into the booster org but 100 people contributing $100 and making one big gift to BBall might get you some pull...pub event with coaches, decals, signed balls etc. I'd be happy to hold a RBA fundraiser. I'm looking for ways to get members to contribute to MC. Half our members are first time ticket buyers.

As an aside, $50 gets you two tshirts, photo, sticker and window decal...great deal from UK. MC take note!
