Re: Honest Question: How Much $$ For A Big East Caliber CoacI know with the ACC sucking out Syracuse and Pitt to go along with their storied hoops conference, that the BE is diminished to a degree. But with Georgetown, Villanova, ND, Marquette, DePaul, Providence, St. Johns, Memphis (possibly), Louisville, Cincy, UConn and Houston, a spot in the BE gives you a chance to really show your stuff against the best of the best. The Big XII only has to counter with KU, WV, OU, UT and maybe Missouri. They hitched their wagon to football not hoops. Thus, Drew could lead Baylor easily to a conference final in the Big XII. And get into the tournament and would get some great job offers. If he took a moribund SMU program to the BE and won there, he'd be the hottest property on the planet. I remember when John Thompson took over at Georgetown. He came to scout a high school tournament I was playing in. Obviously, he wanted great players not me which is fine. And his eyes focused on the game changer players in that tournament. He knew what he needed to do to make Georgetown, which at that point was a joke in college basketball, into a national power. Drew has that eye for talent and the ability to close the deal especially in the SW. He will probably say "no", but in such a coaching search, you need to go after the best of the best to compete in the Big East.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Honest Question: How Much $$ For A Big East Caliber CoacNo way Drew comes here, but I am not at all worried about the quality and caliber of coaches that SMU will attract. The timing is great for a new coach to come here and get a year of CUSA under his belt and then attack the BE. The BE is a whole new animal for SMU in the National basketball arena. I am excited to say the least.
Re: Honest Question: How Much $$ For A Big East Caliber Coac
I agree with you ponyscott but I will say I am excited at the potential SMU could achieve if they choose to do so. GO MUSTANGS!

As ridiculous as it may sound, I think your salary numbers are about 25% on the low end. I remember reading that Doherty's compensation decreased more than 30% from 2007. Assuming he got paid $785 for his first 2 years and $550 for the next 4 years, his total salary is closer to $3.7mm. So I count about $48k per W. And what's his record for those silly Doh supporters that only keep citing one winning season: 2006–2007: 14–17 overall and 3–13 in the conference, 11th 2007–2008: 10–20 and 4–12 conference, 11th 2008–2009: 9–21 and 3–13 conf, 12th 2009–2010: 14–17 and 7–9 conference, 7th 2010–2011: 20–15 and 8–8, 7th, CIT Semifinals (best year) 2011-2012 YTD: 11-13, 2-7 conference Overall: 78-103. That's a failing grade folks. And for his performance, he's the third highest paid person in the University. Let's think about that. A guy with this abysmal record gets paid more than the deans of our academic departments. I understand the salaries for college coaches are out of whack but we should not be paying this guy. If ever the concept of clawback should be implemented is with Doh. He should give the money back to SMU for his lack of performance. The buck stops with the coach. Six years is long enough. SMU deserves better results.
Honest Question: How Much $$ For A Big East Caliber Coach? Why in the world has science not developed a way to foe someone on tapatalk? Can it be that hard?

I took the bait. I assumed you were replying to me, so I removed you from the ignored list. I knew from the beginning you weren't an SMU alum. You don't care about SMU or our basketball program. You only care about Doherty. So if that is all you care about get your [deleted] out of the Board because the rest of us actually care about SMU and our programs (academically and in athletics). As for JJ's salary, that has been discussed ad nauseum in other boards. Is he overpaid? Yes, he is, but at least we have a winning team that has also won bowl games. It was also our FF program that served as the main catalyst to get us into the BE, so yes I'll cut him a little bit of slack in that regard. So you want to get personal? I bet you I'm worth more than you, and I also bet I'm smarter than you. Just because you went to Yale doesn't mean jack if you act like a first-class DB. Yale is a terrific school, but you don't do a good job representing it. When you act like a complete buffoon going to another school's message boards and talking [deleted] to alumni of that school, it makes you look pretty foolish and stupid. But, if you want to talk pedigree, I personally don't care that you went to Yale. I never applied to Yale for UG. I had no interest to go to Yale because I wanted to study finance in UG and stay closer to home. Later on, I went to a Business School that kicks Yale's [deleted] to the curb. So don't come on here bragging about Yale to me. If you want to get into mine-is-bigger-than-yours type of mentality, pick someone else little boy. Now, go back to your lovefest with Doherty because frankly no one else here gives a flip about what you have to say. If you think you're so smart, then maybe you just should pick up on the fact that most people either laugh at you or ignore you. So, get a clue.

Says the guy who posted "...my Yale degree speaks volumes!"
Re: Honest Question: How Much $$ For A Big East Caliber CoacDoh is a good ambassador for SMU. Not many gigs in the country get you six years and one passable season. Unfortunate but that's the way it goes. Im on record as pro Reggie Theus. IF SMU is playing a big east schedule there is no need to frontload the noncon with rpi boosters. Two or three good matchups the rest of noncon a stepwise progression. We should not be playing mcmurry, Dallas Christian, etc.
And before people dogpile Theus : search the boards. When everyone was speculating who would replace tubbs, one guy said "how about the coach from nd and Unc?" Long before anyone else. That would've been me.

I have foed you, but the foe feature does not work when reading the board on tapatalk, which is what my comment referred to. I appreciate the input, and will ignore the rude comment. Grant Carter
Re: Honest Question: How Much $$ For A Big East Caliber Coac
You pretentious [deleted]. Self-serving? Says the pretentious sob that asks everyone here who disagrees with you if they could get into Yale. Well, I answered your question straight on you [deleted]. As far as SMU, we all care about our university and all of our programs. It is an institution you moron. Coaches come and go but this university will remain. So shut the [deleted] up and go give your limited expertise on yales basketball board. Next time you want a good laugh just re-read your delusional posts. You come pretty close to a delusional psycho as I can imagine. You don't care about SMU so shut up. Go back to your Doherty lovefest.
