Re: Rest of Season - What to Do?Just start jacking up three's then immediatly pull back and play defense.
GO MUSTANGS!
Re: Rest of Season - What to Do?
Unfortunately, that is the current system except we have our guys pass the ball around aimlessly for a while before they jack up the three (aka Air Ball). Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Rest of Season - What to Do?
I know I was just being a smart ?. ![]() GO MUSTANGS!
Re: Rest of Season - What to Do?
I thought so, but wanted to make sure the aimless passing was mentioned. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Rest of Season - What to Do?I agree that Jones should get 30 minutes if foul trouble doesn't limit him. I wouldn't be thinking Ryan gets 30 minutes and Frog only 10; I'd consider playing with 2 points. They can both drive and deliver but Frog can also hit treys off high screens. Just not enough minutes to go around but I don't see to many guys deserving of more than 30 minutes and that includes a gimpy Rob. let 'em play more up tempo and sub as guys need a blow
Re: Rest of Season - What to Do?Hilarious in my opinion that he "dropped" the Princeton in the 2nd half and we scored 50+.
Re: Rest of Season - What to Do?Tell Doh to go to Fondren Library, find a copy of Sonny Allen's book on the fast break offense and try it. Add in a Wooden book on the full court press and see what happens.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Re: Rest of Season - What to Do?
I'm sure he read the book on the Princeton ...... apparently didn't help "I think Couchem is right."
-EVERYONE
Re: Rest of Season - What to Do?What's funny is we're advocating Doh switch back to the offense he ran the first 3.5 years lol
Re: Rest of Season - What to Do?here's a thought : It doesn't seem to matter what Offense we run...Doh loses either way. i am sooooo sick of the system talk. We suck with the Princeton. We also sucked with a more wide open offense.
If he keeps blaming the system, he takes the spotlight off of his coaching abilities. No system is going to save Doh's job. I wish we would go ahead and drop the hammer already. It didn't work out, no hard feelings on either side. Move on.
Re: Rest of Season - What to Do?Talent should dictate style of play. If you recruit to the Princeton by all means run the Princeton, but if you recruit thoroughbreds, then let them run. If you have a team full of Jeremy Lin's then run the Princeton. If you have a team full of Mellos run the Princeton. The problem of course is that we can't rebound offensively or defensively, so a fast break offense may not work either.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Rest of Season - What to Do?Agree that our biggest weakness is rebounding. Which means we have no business playing a deliberate half court style. That only works when you can hold your own on the boards and generate extra possessions. Our rebounding stats are HORRIFIC. Our small, slender forwards should be beating their man up the floor for some easy baskets. Instead, we do nothing. Its a total mess.
It was an absolute crime that Clinkscales started the game on Saturday instead of Manual. At every level of basketball (high school, college, pro), once a season is a failure, most coaches start to play the young guys more and give them more responsibility. The veteran role players (not talking Nyk) have had their chance. The other thing, to tie these thoughts together, is if you are weak rebounding team, you need your guards to help on the glass. All the more reason you can't start two really small guards together (Clink and Frog) and expect either one to help on the glass. Doherty's tactics and substitutions just boggle the mind. I enjoy watching talented young players develop because its a glimpse into and an investment in the future but I haven't enjoyed anything about this season and i'm afraid our young players haven't really developed much at all.
Re: Rest of Season - What to Do?total waste of a season: no progression from last year, nobody younger got better in an offense they will likely be running next season, nothing but poor habits and decision-making taught, bruised egos, futile atmosphere, drove away even more fans, several young players likely to transfer
Re: Rest of Season - What to Do?
When we signed Dickerson, James, and Waggoner (the best RB of that class BTW), our FB coaches conspired to figure out how to use them most effectively. They didn't decide to run a passing offense. Good coaches maximize the talents of their players. Bad coaches insist on using a system that his players cannot execute. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
