That was painful. We were a joke and it only worked out b/c we landed JJ.

i hope he has at least "some" idea...jeez

I predict right now that we land someone that NOBODY thinks we can get. I have no inside info or contacts, but I just get the feeling that since we have seen the success that comes with landing a big time, ego-driven, game-changing Head Coach in FB (see JJ), that we will try to replicate it with our BB hire.

Maybe somebody out there isn't happy (see Boeheim) and we can swoop in with our Big $ and Big East move and really entice them to build something here.

Doherty will be fired when Orsini returns from Indy. As he did with Jones, he won't move at the speed of light to secure his replacement. He has to let the NCAA tourney play out since some of the coaches will be targeted as the potential new coach of the Mustangs. It will be key for him to be direct and forthcoming with the current players to avoid them jumping ship. Other than Rob, none of them has any loyalty to Doherty, however, fear of the unknown might cause a couple of them to leave for what they consider to be greener pastures.

he needs to do better than that. Nobody we can get is going to run deep. W/the amount of time it takes to approve hires through HR, including staff, we're going to run up on the open period. Kids like Jalen Jones aren't going to wait for a month, they just aren't. He has tons of high major options after his frosh year. If a kid like Blaise opens it up, we'll never get him back. SMU is in no position to lead its leading returning scorer and a 7'1 top 100 big, just cause Orsini wants to take his sweet time. Nobody does it that way, unless they miss over & over again. Hoops hires never take a month or so, unless its a complete debacle. If you are truly inside the process, understand that what you are describing is not industry standard. Its a cluster-eff waiting to happen.

New Coach-- Timing

SMU makes it tough to be sane fan. It sure would hurt to have both the FB and BB recruits blow up in the same year.

doesn't care who wins.

A high profile, quick hire also helps build the momentum and ticket sales combined with entering the BEAST and rennovation of Moody. God knows we could use more butts in seats.

Obvious move and most sensible is the quick strike. Which is why I fear in SMU fashion we will drag our feet and do some more irreparable danger to the program.
