Have to Fire Doherty Now...as in RIGHT NOW!!

First, you have to fire Doh to keep Jones & possibly Cunningham around. Then, you have to hire quickly so the new guy can resell them. Just firing Doh and sitting, means other teams ships are being used up in the Spring, while Jones & crew wait on the new guy. Waiting hurts their options on the open market, so they'd prefer things get done quickly. 40 plus teams have expressed interest in Jones, should he want to transfer. Cunningham may be gone to Tech regardless.

As for the '12 class, when we fire Doh, they are left hanging. If you don't hire quickly and resell them, they'll want to open it up, just to see what else is out there. In the case of Blaise Mbargorba, should he open it up, he'll be one of the hottest Spring prospects in the country. He'll get offers from bluebloods, which we want to avoid at all costs.

Not to mention AAU season starts in April, and SMU's hiring policy sucks. We need a new coach & staff cleared by the open circuit, which means immediate hire.

For the past five years I have sat across from Doherty and got real tired of seeing his foot stomping, juvenile tantrum throwing, scream in your face, pull you out of the game when you make one mistake, non-teaching/coaching antics and will welcome whoever Steve O. hires. Just bring him on soon... so as not to lose any of our players due to uncertainties.

If you don't have an announcement by Monday, that would really make me question the commitment to basketball that this athletic department really has.

And really, that's where my concern lies. I know Moody is doing the makeover and we have a practice facility and so forth but I've just had this feeling that the true commitment to making this thing relevant is lacking.

Personally, I think it's ridiculous that the thought of Orsini sitting on the selection committee should be a factor in the timing of this decision/announcement. I don't think it's unprecedented to have an AD sitting on the committee and firing his coach at the same time.

But the longer this drags out, the weaker Orsini looks.

I do believe the strategy is to delay the firing announcement to maximize visibility about the open position during the tournament. However, I don't think anyone outside of PonyFans and the few that attend the games care, but why not get maximum exposure. With Orsini in Indy, I'm wondering who is connecting with the team to prepare them for this announcement and to ensure they don't bail out. Again, they don't care about Doh being fired, but it is human nature to have a fear of the unknown.

Doherty is smarter than all of us. Who else on this board has the option to sit on his butt and collect $450K for doing nothing? He outsmarted and out negotiated the powers that be at SMU. Sad... but true.

Somebody mentioned 40 other schools wanting Jones. Schools cannot recruit active players.

Doh is making over $550k. I do not think it is a slam dunk that he gets fired. Not trying to cause a riot out here but I can see Orsini stating that we must play in the NCAA/NIT tourney next year or we make a change.
