Was this post for real? I couldn't stop laughing. I thought the delusional tcu trolls were bad but this guy takes it to a new level.

As far as the coach there, I agree that he is better than Doh. If we offered, I think he would accept it even given the difficulty of making the basketball program relevant. He at least would be relevant at a top school in a real basketball conference.

He's a big time coach, don't let a troll make you forget that fact. Good bench coach, very good recruiter, and would lock down the area as SMUs coach going into the Big East. We could & might do so much worse, it's scary

No offense because I don't know much about college basketball, but anyone can recruit ineligible players. We need a coach that can attract players that meet not only basic ncaa standards but also SMU admin standards. If he can't get kids on the court at UNT what chance does he have at SMU?

Also he has a few 20 win seasons, but UNT sos is: 259 for 11-12, 240 for 10-11, 270 for 09-10, and 183 for 08-09.

UNT plays in the Sun Belt, of course they have a bad SoS. They play 16 games a years vs slugs. As for eligibility, we had our entire 2010 class sit b/c of transcript issues. IF SMU admission standards aren't basic NCAA standards for Big East basketball, it doesn't matter who our coach is, cause we'll never win. That's a league of cheating bullies that live off of kids w/cooked transcripts. Level the playing field or we get bludgeoned.

Just understand this, Jones is a commodity in industry circles. He's one of the frontrunners for the Miss St job that opened up yesterday, and is next in line @ LSU when that job comes available. People around here want to belittle UNT soo much, they've actually convinced themselves that Jones hasn't done an amazing job. He's completely backed and endorsed by the entire DFW grassroots community for the SMU position, and he can X & O as well.

No trolling, just truth. I have said this before, I understand your hate. I see why you fear the rise of NT, with our giant enrollment, great college scene and boundless potential. Denigrating and belittling us is a good defense mechanism against our rise as keeping socially inferior in some modern institutional caste system is a tried and true way of keeping us down.

Problem is that it is not working anymore.

You should have come up to check out the 35 Denton festival last weekend. By the turnout, a good portion of your friends and neighbors did. It is a great music scene, rivaled only by Austin's SXSW. You don't have to wait until next year - there is great live music playing tonight at our tremendous collection of college bars like Dan's Silverleaf and Fry Street. Chances are good that some of your undergrads will leave their Uptown constraints and head up tonight to enjoy it themselves. It is the best college scene in the state, second maybe to Austin. Prospective students want to enjoy their time in school - athletes are no different. The only missing ingredient we needed was winning sports and lo and behold - here they come.

You are fooling yourselves if you think you can keep us down, but hey, I understand. Maybe in 3-4 years we will see you in the Big East. I would look forward to that.

This guy is already drunk, and St. Patrick's Day doesn't officially start for another 8 1/2 hours.

I loved the part about UNT being the second best college scene in the state behind Texas. That was hilarious. Yeah, a commuter school in Denton. What the hell? If you're going to troll, at least try to make it believable.

Shouldn't Denton St Teachers College be working harder to keep their basketball players eligible, instead of flunking out the 1st semester of their freshman year?

MeanGreenMachine wrote:In case you guys have any random thoughts about coming up to little ol' Denton and poaching MY basketball coach who has managed to build a solid program to replace the utter abortion that you just fired - please think again. I believe that Coach Jones is very happy right here in the only college town in North Texas.

You have a fine institution and a football program on the rise. Your basketball program though just isn't a destination job for an up and coming coach like Jones. You have suffered through some really bad years and it is likely gonna get a lot worse when you take that team into the Big East.

Not to mention, as NT grows into its role a the premier research institution in North Texas, our profile is being raised everyday. Our powerful alumni base is a sleeping giant of athletic and legacy fundraising. Our institutional advantages have taken hold and in the next decade will bear significant fruit. Any coach can see that this isn't potential anymore - it's reality. Look at McCarney - he saw it.

You take that and consider it alongside the budgetary committment that NT has made to athletics recently (and our own recent success in basketball), I just this being the better job and I doubt Jones would ever even consider a move to a program that will face huge challenges to get to .500 in their own conference.

I do think that UTA coach Scott Cross would be a good hire and you guys should be able to pick him up. Just my two cents.

woah woah woah there buddy. How about you guys start making the most basic of college rankings before you start thinking you're the next University of Texas. Hell, even UTD is way ahead of you guys in that regard, and you guys have over an 80 year head start on them for crying out loud.

Anyway, we'll get a good enough coach here. A Big East position in this recruiting area? Yeah we'll get something good. It may be Jones, it may not - but you can't argue that a Sun Belt job is better than a Big East one, holy [deleted] lol). How about you worry less on our coaching efforts and more on you guys getting out of the Sun Belt (not a criticism, I like the idea of you guys in the Alliance - makes perfect sense).

LOL. Mean Green fan who thinks Johnny Jones isn't interested in the SMU job should take advantage of the 7 day free trial to the SMU Rivals site

Dude, please don't compare Denton to Austin when it comes to live music. I'm sure your little festival was cute and homely, but it wasn't even close to SXSW, sorry.

Bye the way, the girl that gave me a lap dance last night said she was going to UNT!
