Prior to UConn's first ten years in the Big East (during the Dom Perno coaching debacle) they were quite a strong regional team winning several Yankee Conference championships and making it to the NCAA Elite 8. They have always had tremendous support and a large following, even during the very lean first decade of the Big East, so I disagree that there wasn't anything there prior to Calhoun. Obviously Calhoun has taken them to a whole other level, but it's not like there wasn't anything there. Whoever takes over for Calhoun will almost certainly be associated with the UConn family. My money is on Kevin Ollie.
