This was a silly thread IMO...you don't think SO is working his [deleted] off and knows the situation?....he probably has had so many more discussions and interviews than you would ever know. You started it all with weak repartee with this thread...

I'm sure we will come out of this ok - and obviously the let down of Buzz kind of made for a dismal week.
I'm not the biggest Steve O fan but I don't think it's fair to blame him on this one yet.
Im not Orsini people at all, but its wholly unfair of people to get overly critical at this stage. We've been turned down all of once that we know, which is no big deal, other than the fact we were really played. Beyond that, we're still in a legit hiring window. That said, it can't drag beyond this upcoming week

Why not wait??? Nothing is pressing and the season is over. O still has plenty of time. Only impaatient people are those not involved.

Not a criticism of Orsini. Just a little disapointment in that Buzz and Weber would have been nice hires. However, they chose to go with highly visible, more established programs. Much of the process is beyond the control of the AD, unless you have an opening at a marquee school. Ultimately, the donors call the final shot since it is their money.

Whoever the coach is, needs a staff, and AAU is already starting. I was at the Icebreaker event earlier today, and schools had 'eyes' all over the gyms. There are 50 transfer possibilities that could help SMU out there. There is attrition that needs to be forced, and still some quality players available in '12. Oh yeah, we have several players on the team that need to see the new coach, before deciding if they're coming or going. Sense of urgency is imperative

Hoopmanx you are dead on with your comments. This is why there should be some sense of urgency. But getting the right guy is critical.

The problem is the window is quickly closing on the window of making a hire who is both a splash hire and a good hire. Unfortunately, SMU is in a position where it really needs somebody who is both.
Even if we make a "good" hire two weeks from now it won't necessarily excite the base which would be sad since we have a tremendous opportunity right now.

In many ways I think this is the most important FB/BB hire in 30 years here.
BE BB is comparable to SWC FB....Big Time.
Disappointed in Buzz, hope I am not disappointed a second time.

SMU took a very long time to hire a football coach. I hope they take just as long as it takes to get it right in basketball.

Easy to say because for thirty years it didn't matter who we hired. There wasn't anyone who cared since there hasn't been an swc for 20 years I'm guessing you mean sec. So to make an analogy. Our Shot at getting buzz would be like Mizzou trying to hire less miles away from LSU. That ain't happening.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

Sure- why not. By then the new coach will have plenty of vacancies on the team and also be able to start recruiting players all over again. We need a splash hire and pronto so the new coach and retain the players he wants and save the recruits that he wants. So far we have struck out on first tier coaches, haven't found any second tier coaches who seem to be overly interested and hopefully will not have to settle for third tier coaches from the sunbelt who have never coached in a major conference and had to recruit players who some degree of academic prowess. Time for SO to earn his 'big bucks"

How do you get all this "struck out" info Red? It amazes me that just because we interview someone it means we were turned down. Am I the only one on this board who has interviewed for a job and not been offered?
