I am not saying the catholic 7 was not a loss - but they aint what they used to be. Memphis and Temple, SMU and Houston pretty much replace them in fact. I mean in the last couple of years its just been Marquette, Villanova and Georgetown.

You all forget that what most people switch jobs for is more money - and you combine an up and coming program in Dallas, with bit of a recruiting tract record, brand new facilities and an absoluely fantastic basketball conference, and Larry Brown with the money that Howard was being paid - and we will have virtually our pick of assistants.

We will see what money can do. Coach Howard almost single handedly gave Illinois top 10 recruiting class and Coach Maligi gave UH a top 25 class. I hope we get someone that has that type of background. I know Coach Brown will do his best. If Syracuse and Pitt had stayed it would be a fantastic power conference. Now it is a very good conference that is losing national champion Louisville with others waiting to bolt. I am sure Coach Brown has someone lined up. Go SMU.

This is a complement to SMU. He went to a NC contender with a promotion. If it was a lateral it would not have been bad either.

Congrats to Coach Howard, but what a bummer for us. There is no way we will be able to hire anyone better than him because frankly there is probably not anyone better in the country much like Klemm. The thing that could make his replacement better is if we hire someone that is better connected in Texas and Louisiana so that we lock down the top 2-3 players from Texas each of the next few years. We do that and we are in the final four in the next 4 years.

Maligi is our Texas recruiter. I think a New York or Florida sniper would be good.

Lots of chicken littles in this thread, but no one addressing the facts. First, Howard is responsible for 3 kids on the SMU roster, Head/Moore/Brown. Those aren't exactly marquee. He wasnt about to breakthrough in '14 in Chicago, and all he recruits is Chicago. He's great at recruiting Chi, but our main '14 kids are all Maligi's and our marquee '13s and transfers were Maligi's or Browns.

Kansas needs Chi, SMU doesn't b/c it's not a pipeline that lasts beyond Howard. Its not a pipeline that even got us Chicago's best kids or would have ever.

Don't take this the wrong way, cause Howard was great for our program. He's a huge self-promoter, as evidenced by him taking credit for some of those illinois classes. Its the reason Groce didnt retain him in Champagne, and its why SMU has some swagger. Howard has a bigger rep than actual players signed and that's the bottom line. Sign someone who offers a more realistic city, that plays in our league, and makes us a threat to our foes.

This isnt about crying over the Big East, and there are certainly umpteen better recruiters than Howard at a very high major level. All that said, he did well by us, I wish him well

it's good to have guys who are wanted by others; now we just need to replace the position with someone just as effective so there is no drop-off

I am not really worried, but to think that we can do better than one of the best is unrealistic. I am simply hoping we end up matching his production and I am confident that we will. I realize Maligi recruits Texas, but I still think that we would be smart to have another Maligi on the staff to lock down Texas and hedge our bets for the day Maligi leaves.

We haven't made the tournament in 20 years...the fact we're losing an asst. coach to KANSAS is incredible and speaks volumes about how far LB has taken this program in such a short time

When was the last time we had a football or basketball coach taken away by another D-1 school? This is progress.

Yeah, I guess that is right unless he was run off by Jones and left on his own.
