SMU... has quality win opportunities against Cincinnati, Louisville, SMU and Memphis before the regular season ends.
Let's hope we don't beat SMU.

We already beat SMU last Tuesday. No need to do it again.

Ummmh, don't give that [deleted] any love. He has openly advocated for years the need to close the NCAA tournament down to only the now big 5 conferences............
Re: Jay Bilas Ranks Top 68 Teams in America: SMU #39
I've only gotten the impression that he disagrees with how the teams are seeded, not their place in the tournament. I could easily have missed it though. Even if he does have some views I disagree with, there's nothing wrong with that. I still greatly enjoy his analysis. (And frankly I love how outspoken he is against the NCAA.)
Re: Jay Bilas Ranks Top 68 Teams in America: SMU #23I will forever be open to at least hearing his perspective after watching him on "Schooled". (I may not always agree with him, but I'll hear him out).
Re: Jay Bilas Ranks Top 68 Teams in America: SMU #23Bilas thinks that the NCAA shotclock should be cut to 24 seconds.
I disagree - the NBA is almost unwatchable because the shot clock is too quick and so you get a lot of isolation and not much else.
Re: Jay Bilas Ranks Top 68 Teams in America: SMU #23
I think 30 would be perfect, but neither the NCAA nor the NBA shot clock really bothers me. Last edited by SMU Section F on Tue Feb 04, 2014 8:35 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: Jay Bilas Ranks Top 68 Teams in America: SMU #23
I could live with 30. 24 is too short.
Re: Jay Bilas Ranks Top 68 Teams in America: SMU #2320 seconds, 3 v 3 and ally oops are worth five.
Pay Lashlee more money
Re: Jay Bilas Ranks Top 68 Teams in America: SMU #2322. Southern Methodist Mustangs (Previous ranking: 23)
SMU allows 20.1 points per game in the paint, the fewest among major-conference teams, and just ahead of Syracuse, Virginia, Florida and Arizona. The Mustangs outscore their opponents by 16.3 points per game in the paint, the best differential among major-conference teams. SMU allows opponents to rebound only 28 percent of their missed shots, best in the American. The Mustangs have a good "first-shot" defense and do not give up a lot of high-percentage second shots. Further, SMU is 12-0 when it allows 12 or fewer points off of turnovers, and 7-5 when it does not. And, when Larry Brown's team "plays the right way" and assists on at least 55 percent of its field goals, it is 16-0. Re: Jay Bilas Ranks Top 68 Teams in America: SMU #22As a longtime nba fan only now really getting into college basketball (guess why) the extended shot clock was jarring at every SMU game I have attended the past several years. It isn't so bad these days but there is a lot of wasted time with the longer shot clock. I would cut it to 30 and see what happens
Btw, LAXER, I would put a shot clock in lacrosse too. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Re: Jay Bilas Ranks Top 68 Teams in America: SMU #22I don't think the shot clock should be reduced for the college game. Remember at the college level because e players are not as athletic you can still effectively press. I think if the college game went to 24 you would see every team press pretty much and then you would see most teams setting there offense with only 12-10 seconds left. In the nba the ball crosses the center line pretty much uniformly by the 18 second mark. Also you need more time to break down a zone which is prevelant in the college game but pretty much only used sporadically in the nba because most nba players can consistently hit open jump shots. Also most nba players can get off a contested shot college players are more likely to have there contested shots blocked leading to more shot clock violation in a world of 24 sec shot clocks and more whistles and less game flow.
There is nothing wrong with the college game. Remember they play 8 less minutes than the nba and still usually score in the 70's, if they added 8 minutes most teams would score in the low 90's. There is still plenty of scoring and it's entertaining to watch offenses actually be run instead of 1 motion or move or isolation.
Re: Jay Bilas Ranks Top 68 Teams in America: SMU #22i have always enjoyed the college game more than the nba (or as keving garnett called it when he was a rookie, a bunch of old men who foul a lot).
Re: Jay Bilas Ranks Top 68 Teams in America: SMU #22the only reason I might like the shot clock being shortened is so that teams wouldn't have to start fouling so early when down. I hate it when college games become double bonus FT shooting contests.
