Didn't we have a showdown with Rice (believe it or not) for first place in the last weekend of the year-I can't remember if it was SWC or WAC. That was very close to a sellout-within a few hundred.

haha, now that was funny! alas, I was very frat-tastic at that time in my life.

Found this article about that game: http://www.maryellenmark.com/text/magaz ... 0-015.html

"In early January, the team's record was a dismal 6‑7 when Herren hit his post‑rehab stride against Southern Methodist University in a nationally televised game in Dallas.

"Alcoholic! Druggy! Rehab!" the frat yahoos screamed during pre‑game warm‑ups. "White trash!" they taunted.

The SMU fans would have been better served had they left Chris Herren alone. In the first half, Herren scored sixteen points on slashes to the basket and NBA‑range three‑pointers. "Herren is sooo difficult to stop," the ESPN commentator gushed. "He shoots the three, and if you come up on him, he goes right past you."

Yeah, but it wouldn't been nearly as fun.

That was spring of 1993, so SWC. I was a senior in high school and bought a ticket that day. My memory is that i sat on the last row in he corner, so I thought it was sold out, but I could be wrong.

I was so excited, I figured every game would be that way.

The media guide will confirm, but I believe the Arkansas game in '94 (after they won the title) was sold out.

I don't recall any sellouts in the post death penalty era, but we had several back in the SWC days. We had overflow crowds when Ira Terrell was battling Tech's big man (Bullock?) and I remember games against Arkansas and Louisville selling out in the Bliss era.

Moody is going to be electric for UConn. Sure hope we can keep it that way for the entire AAC home schedule

Those 80s SWC days sure did have some great moments!

Nolan Richardson was always such a whiner. It was always so annoying how much the media just loved him though despite his antics ,, but I never understood why they wouldn't call a spade a spade and say he was a whiner.

Obviously, it will take some time to build some rivalries, but based on the quality of basketball The American has the chance to potentially be even better.

1992-93 Chad Allen hit a three from the corner.

When they came to town, my fraternity brothers and I would stand behind their bench and scream horrible things at him.

I actually feel bad about it now.

SMU won that game against Crum.

I think Louisville had players on that team that later won a NC in of all places, Reunion Arena.

[deleted] Enberg was there, Al McGuire was there, SoCal_Pony was there.

No way was that game close to a sell-out. Over a thousand empty seats, I remember being disappointed at the crowd.

I remember two games in the late 70s, early 80s that were sellouts. During Sonny Allen's tenure we sold out for an upset win over Kansas. During the Bliss years I'm pretty sure we sold out against NC State.
