Anyone who voted for the NIT really doesn not follow college basketball.

You must mean at Moody since the first few rounds are played at the teams home courts. I still like the NCAA though.

Besides, recruits get to watch you on CBS if you're in the tourney. Most NITs aren't even on TV til the later rounds, at least not national where everyone is watching.

But a recruit would definitely be excited that the team got to the Big Dance for the first time in 20 years. Shows progress even with a first-round loss.

Could you name without looking who lost in the first round of the NCAA?

BTW I went and looked, and the at-large teams losing in the first round were Middle Tennessee St. and Boise St.

In 2012 it was Iona and Cal.

Probably not, that's a fair point. But if SMU made it to the NCAA tourney and it was a school I was looking at potentially, I'd know that. I can tell you any B10 team that made it and I'll be I could get half. Most the teams are the auto-bids though, nobody remembers a team that only made it once and not as an at-large.

The nit serves its purpose. For smu, it would be a blast, cause you could have a home game, and the team is young. Historically, teams that did well in the nit were top 20 types the following year.

Another huge reason is we wouldn't have to hear "SMU hasn't made it to the tournament since 1993" anymore. The NIT or CIT doesn't get that monkey off your back.
