I am partially guilty of this, at least in football. I have 2 tickets in 105 that I have given to clients, friends, or just people on the boulevard to get them in the game. It's an old habit that I plan to discontinue next year because I just can't get people to use them.

I know people in basketball that do this too. I think this will work itself out with increased demand. Be patient.

Quick improvement is to open the section and let students or others back fill the section. The few that come late can boot people out of their seats. More important to have red seats full than some random seats in the rafters

The booting people out sounds nice and all, but, when it comes down to it, if one of the blue hairs has someone in their seats, they'll complain so much and so loud to the administration I bet it would stop immediately. Might as well skip this step and come up with something that lasts longer than one game.

I think some people want to contribute big bucks and want success for the program but wouldn't ever consider attending a game. (they'd rather be in the red seats at the opera - not that there is anything wrong with that  ) Solution: Buy your row of red seat tickets and ask the athletic office to fill the seats for them for you. Then it is on the ticket/athletic office to guarantee that those seats are completely full.

Yeah there's no way that happens. Plus, some of the people that do attend the games in those sections would probably be annoyed to have undergraduates next to them if we were loud or something. Its definitely a sensitive situation, you don't want to offend those people that write the checks and have been for a while, but man, it looks really bad seeing a sold out house and then half full seats at center court.

This is a short term problem. We have to remember that the posters on this board, and the people that show up to every game are the only ones that really know how successful this team is. Case in point, as I was taking the bus from Mockingbird Station to the game on Saturday, I had 5 people sitting in the rows in front of me, and I overheard them talking about where they need to go to buy tickets and where the current students need to go to get their free ones. They were in shock when I informed them that the game had been sold out for a week. Even the students didn't believe me when I said that their allotment was gone as well and they couldn't just walk in like students have been able to for the last 20 years. They quickly found out when they showed up. Similar story goes to many of my alumni friends that I have been bugging all season to give this team a chance. They are only now hearing about us after the few stories in DMN, ESPN, SI etc. Many of the red seats are bought by big time donors who want to help generate revenue and buy extra seats (I do the same for football, I have a block of 6 and always use 3, but we have a hard time giving away the other 3 when we aren't playing an in demand team). They have been buying these seats for years, and arent able to get them into hands of people that want to go with the quick increase in demand. It's not like they want them to go unused, we just became a hot ticket a lot faster than anyone anticipated and the school will help find a way to redistribute properly.

Sadly, I think most are too busy to know what is going on - probably aren't even aware that you can easily log in and email the tickets to others. It's not that hard to do.... I hope they keep getting reminded b/c Cinn and Lou are huge games that would be nice to have filled in all sections.

I like this idea. Solves two issues. Have them pick put the game they will actually show and let the ticket office fill the rest.

I think this is residual from when we were bad and people bought to support but the product wasn't worth watching and you couldn't give tickets away. But those seats have had lots of no shows since the 80s when we were good.

A final suggestion is to have the Godfather do a video like he did for the students and send it to all the red seat season ticket holders. They may actually listen to him.

I talked to a girl and her dad outside the stadium. They were trying to get tix at the last minute bc they had been to the W library. I informed them the game had been sold out for over a week. They were completely taken back and had no idea. I laughed and strolled into the game. I had no time to deal with that.

The funny thing is is that there are tons of students trying to get tickets for every game. I get an email every week on the fraternity listserve asking if anyone has tickets. Its just an example, but the demand is crazy high for these tickets and then you look across the court and the best seats in the house are 25% full.
