Please bring in Kyrie Irving over the summer and teach KF not to dribble like an 8 year old.

Man, after reading this thread, I've come to realize how little I know about basketball.

"Still playing HS ball in his head" would be my answer (where he didn't really have to play D and could create his own shot with relative ease). (have no idea about grades)

I'm hoping a full college offseason will get his mind right and his strength up.

I blame this entirely on Brett Shipphead and his Shippy story a couple of weeks ago.

My untrained observation is that he is constantly caught out of position and not instinctively reacting on defense then gets impatient on offense and tries to force up shots with bad technique.

To me, it has looked like he has progressed from where he was earlier in the season, but it looks like he still has a long ways to go to be an all-around player.

I don't understand what has happened, he clearly always needed to keep developing but still managed to get him minutes before. Doesn't seem like he has regressed so I wonder if Coach Brown is starting to tighten up his rotations for the post season or if he did something to get in Browns doghouse.

When he got into the Temple game, his slow rotation on the perimeter let Temple hit an immediate 3-ball. You know Larry was on him all week about this and he tip-toed into the game and immediately gave one up...that's a wrap.

I'm sure KF will play with a chip, and some fresh legs, from that time on the bench. I hope he lights up Coog High.

Whatever his shortcomings are I'm sure LB has identified and is working on them. I GUESS more of a project than one might expect from a Mickie D's AA. Hopefully he keeps a good attitude, works had and blossoms next year.

Question: what percentage of McDonalds AA's become collegiate stars? What percentage flame out? Anybody know?

This is a little old, but it relates to your question.

I can tell you very few "flame out." Almost all contribute at the collegiate level although many never pan out to the potential they were supposed to out of high school. But I can't name a lot that have never made some sort of impact. Keith will make his mark at some point, the raw skill-set isn't there. The handles are a real issue, needs to spend a summer doing nothing but stationary dribbling and crossovers. Plays too straight up with the ball in his hand and he needs to be driving the ball through if that makes sense. The amount of time it takes for the ball to get back to his hand when he takes a dribble trying to make a move is way too long and that's simply not driving through the ball to the floor and dribbling hard. Sounds stupid but this is something you preach. Shorter times between ball leaving your hand and returning equals less time for a defender to swipe on a crossover or trying to get to the hoop.

And his D....wow, looks like Q Ross on D. Has no idea what's going on 3/4 of the time. I have no idea what he did in high school, but the dribbling may take a summer or two to become adequate. He will never be in the NBA unless it improves 10 fold.

And I'm not sure where this thread came from hoopman, but I do agree with every point. The handles are my biggest pet peeve right now. One thing that's worrisome to a degree is his athleticism. Not quick, doesn't have the raw metrics, he'll have a spot in the league though with his size if his handles improve at the 2 spot.

SMU's Quinton Ross was one of the best defenders this school has produced.
