Re: Looks like it could be Duke vs SMU for D. J. HoggDuke is like a huge episode of revenge of the nerds.
And Michigan only looks really smart if you are around Ohio state people all the time.
Re: Looks like it could be Duke vs SMU for D. J. HoggArticle Written Jan 3rd, Today's Date Feb 22nd. Nice. For all the people who want to rip posters for legitimate reasons. See this post.
Wait! He might be one of the self-annointed basketball gods? For those who are a little slow, like blackoutpony, take time and look up the definition for sarcasm ![]() Go Mustangs! Beat UCONN!
Re: Looks like it could be Duke vs SMU for D. J. HoggI'm confused by this thread, cause I've never heard smu is particularly strong w hogg
Re: Looks like it could be Duke vs SMU for D. J. Hogg
I thought he was a Texas lean, but Hogg has visited SMU a few times (including the UConn game and the practice that AI showed up at)
Re: Looks like it could be Duke vs SMU for D. J. HoggHeard from titans sources he likes SMU. No idea if true.
Re: Looks like it could be Duke vs SMU for D. J. Hogg
Everyone in the metroplex has visited smu multiple times, doesn't equate w sincere interest. Like I said, he and king McClure consistently get brought up and neither are strong on smu according to most
Re: Looks like it could be Duke vs SMU for D. J. HoggHogg still no offer from Duke. Kinda old news. I did really enjoy watching Hogg vs Plano East. Good shooter and was relentless in attacking hoop. Had 5 or 6 blocked shots, most of them were as off ball defender.
Beat the hell out of anybody!

Re: Looks like it could be Duke vs SMU for D. J. HoggD J has a lot of potential and he has a 6ft 8in frame which may grow taller by 2015 - so I am not
putting him down. He may be a great shooting forward in college. BUT - he has a lot of bad habits at this point. I have seen him play for the past two years and he has been somewhat erratic on offense and on defense. He is way laid back and much of the time plays with no intensity. His size would permit him to be a very good rebounder in high school but he prefers to hover around the 3pt line. He runs up the floor on offense with his back to the ball and he has missed several opportunities for fast breaks. On the plus side - he is a streak shooter and when he gets hot from 3, he will hit several in a row. He is a good free throw shooter. In the state playoffs last Tues night I saw him hit 28 pts and the coach left him in for almost the whole game and he had 4-5 blocks as an off-the-ball defender - so this may have been one of his finest games. I would Assume that a good coach could eliminate some of his bad habits. I would like to see us get him but I am most concerned about his intensity level. It will be interesting to see how well he plays next year which is his senior season.
Re: Looks like it could be Duke vs SMU for D. J. HoggSince my last post, I have been thinking about Hogg for about one hour and doing
some research. I had forgotten that the center and the power forward on Plano West had both gone down with injuries and haven't played for most of this year. Hogg was originally a 2 or 3, a shooting wing, on this team. The coach asked him to play out of his normal position and play the 5. That would explain some of his shortcomings. Also learned that he scored 18 pts in the latest playoff win in overtime over Longview on Sat night. His next game will be on Tues night at 7:30 at the Garland Special EVents Center (Curtis Culwell) against Berkner. I plan to be there.

lol if you think Michigan isn't smart/tough to get into. It's tougher than SMU just fyi. Surprisingly, the freshman profile for SMU is about on par with Ohio State now that I'm looking at it. I didn't go to Ohio State though, so feel free to attack lol
Re: Looks like it could be Duke vs SMU for D. J. Hogg
That wouldn't be so bad. Sure they are weird but they had some decent parties with some good smoke, so you'd have to assume by now they would have at least one pharmaceutical connection with a good supply of oxy or fent. Plus they have unlimited access to low self esteem Mu's. Low quality, but extreme quantity and low hassle. "I think Couchem is right."

Oh I know, only offering why some may think otherwise. Where do you think he leans?
Re: Looks like it could be Duke vs SMU for D. J. Hogg
I hate michigan, but realize it is a very good school. IMO, it's the 2nd or 3rd best public school (behind Berkeley and pretty even with virginia). I would prefer virginia because it has more of a private school feel. As to ohio state, can't compare the class stats. Apples and oranges. However, If you really want to look at the some key numbers just on paper, I think a few years ago the hard numbers (sat and gap) probably not that dissimilar between smu and osu. However, as a private school we are on a much better trajectory (no way ohio state will average 1300 sat in the next 5 years as our most recent class has) and we can much more easily maintain that trajectory as a smaller school. We'll continue to pull away, and our class will be more geographically diverse. Not as many out of state candidates apply proportionally to osu as they do to smu. In short, we are better position and can actually catch up to Michigan (at the ug level). Their grad programs are very good.
Re: Looks like it could be Duke vs SMU for D. J. Hogg
Extremely rational argument, agreed on every point. And yeah, as much as I absolutely despise scUM, I've considered my MBA at Ross. Top-notch programs all-around, very good hospital there too, one of the best in the country with regard to neurology. And yeah, being private definitely gives SMU a major advantage. FWIW, I know that tOSU has raised their standards tremendously in the last 5 years or so because it never used to be very hard to get into but no way they can continue at the pace they are and maintain the enrollment level that is there. SMU on the other hand will probably see a spike in applications with basketball doing well and allow the school to be even more selective than it already is. All great schools, would be proud to see I graduated from any of them in all honesty, SMU and UM obviously being better schools.
