Re: "If SMU Weren't in Dallas They'd Be the Talk of the Coun
Exactly! What fools. Oh my goodness, it is just incredibly weak stuff.
Re: "If SMU Weren't in Dallas They'd Be the Talk of the Counhaha - i think the coverage has been decent overall. Lots of national pub
Re: "If SMU Weren't in Dallas They'd Be the Talk of the CounA couple of points here.
#1 It was sure nice to see SMU in bold black letters just in above of Texas in the AP Rankings. #2 I mentioned this to someone yesterday, the 2013/14 SMU Basketball program led by Larry Brown has given SMU more positive national publicity AND coverage than anytime since the DP in '86. It seems that the national media has a greater interest in SMU than our own rag in our "back yard." Let's just face it, we will never overtake the Big 12 and now SEC bias the DMN thinks is "god almighty," until we reach sweet sixteen status on a regular basis year in and year out. Just my 2 cents. PP
Re: "If SMU Weren't in Dallas They'd Be the Talk of the CounFrankly, who cares if we are Texas' team? I want to be America's team! Let's compete with Kansas, Duke and Syracuse, not Texas and Oklahoma.
Re: "If SMU Weren't in Dallas They'd Be the Talk of the CounI found the story interesting but not unique. He was criticizing his own profession here in Dallas. There was once a parable about never being a prophet it in your own home (town), just part of Larry Brown's legacy of binging SMU basketball out of the wilderness.
Re: "If SMU Weren't in Dallas They'd Be the Talk of the CounWe are a small private school in a wealthy enclave of Dallas that has been a sports doormat for the last 25 years. Its going to take more than meaningless 6 win seasons in football and one good regular season in basketball to get the DMN to give us Texas or Texas A&M caliber exposure. We have to show Dallas that this thing is capable of sustaining itself and getting bigger and better. Honestly, how many of you thought we'd be talking about a season at Moody (even with the magnificent renovations) where we will sell out every game? We've had several big articles in various news outlets across the country that might not have even known SMU existed prior to this season. We are still in the growing stages of this program.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: "If SMU Weren't in Dallas They'd Be the Talk of the Coun
Make a run in the tourney and we will be America's cinderella that everyone roots for
Re: "If SMU Weren't in Dallas They'd Be the Talk of the CounHow much play does Butler get in the local media? Xavier? Marquette? I think that would be interesting to know.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: "If SMU Weren't in Dallas They'd Be the Talk of the CounThe test:
Will The News send a scribe to SMU's tourney games? Will The News send a scribe to UT's games? And I don't care WHERE they're played.
Re: "If SMU Weren't in Dallas They'd Be the Talk of the CounIndy star does a good job w Butler. They have beat writers for purdue and IU also, not unlike tu and aggy here. Butler generally more prominent there than smu in dmn. IUPUI gets about the same coverage as smu
Re: "If SMU Weren't in Dallas They'd Be the Talk of the CounFirst of all, I believe our media coverage has been appropriate nationally, and not bad locally. For Barry Horn to blame the lack of hype locally around our season is because this market doesn't care about basketball is foolish. Football will always be king here but basketball is firmly the second most popular sport in this market. LB points this out often. The Mavs currently have the longest home sellout streak in US pro sports - 500+ games and ten years. HS basketball in Dallas has become a national force in recruiting, 100k people showed up for the NBA all-star game at Jerry World a couple of years ago and the NBA is littered with players from Texas. Barry needs to stick to radio/TV ratings and leave sports opinions to himself.

Re: "If SMU Weren't in Dallas They'd Be the Talk of the CounI see 8 SMU basketball articles on the DMN website ahead of bigger schools.
Re: "If SMU Weren't in Dallas They'd Be the Talk of the CounIt's exciting no doubt. I think the true test for SMU is "is it sustainable?" Or, is this just a flash in the pan once LB leaves which won't be too long for now. On the surface, we should be fine as we are building pipelines/relationships with 2016 kids (and beyond hopefully) and having Jank as HCIW. I don't really know much about Jank, his recruiting, and his Xs and Os ability.
Re: "If SMU Weren't in Dallas They'd Be the Talk of the Coun
That why moving forward we need the story to be about our program rather than all about LB. Don't get me wrong, LB has been a godsend and deserves all the credit in the world for this turnaround but he's not going to be here forever - three, four more years? And let's be honest, the guys on our roster and Muiday chose SMU because of LB. SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four
