Agreed- a lot of major media outlets are doing it and it needs to be corrected ASAP.

Not really a well reserached evaluation since about half our wins were in front of 20-30 folks, no students and a dead enviromant prior to Moody reopening.

I'm not familiar with the background, but can you tell me why it matters if someone refers to SMU as Southern Methodist? I mean, isn't that the official name of the university or am I missing something? What's weirder, I can't think of another school that goes exclusively by their initials. Pretty cool though.

almost every school goes with their shortened initials. We are not as strong a brand as we could be or want to be - the only way to ingrain this is to be diligent and really push it. Also - there are a couple of lesser smu's out there - we need to squash any of them grabbing onto our letters.

I imagine you will have much better luck contacting him directly, I do not think he reads every post in every thread.

Holy crap. So this is like a huge deal to SMU fan lol. 52 freakin pages on branding? Good news, I feel like most refer to SMU as SMU already, especially when they're talking. Difference between oral and written. The thing I'd be more concerned about is people even knowing about SMU or where it's located. Obviously most of the intelligent community knows about SMU, but I'd be willing to bet 90% of the US couldn't tell you where the school is located if you exclude people from Texas. I couldn't begin to tell you how many people I've talked to about SMU bball across the country and it seems like people always ask where the school is. Not exaggerating either. I probably wouldn't have known if it weren't for the friends that I had go there.

Um, so it's divided into lots of annoying sub-pages, but the link below is very similar, so apparently it's like a huge deal and freakin detailed for your school, too. Anyway, you asked why SMU matters versus "Southern Methodist" (or any of the ways that gets shortened, like "So. Meth."), and you have an answer. I have no opinion on your lengthy diatribe about people not knowing about SMU or where it's located, except to say that every mention of SMU being "SMU" and not "So. Meth." is indeed a step forward in remedying that fact. http://www.osu.edu/brand/

haha, very true. Never heard So. Meth in my life. That's crazy that these schools spend that much time on that stuff, wonder how many hours went into those by interns. I'm sure Miami probably has one too. But I've always heard and referred to SMU as simply SMU as with anyone I've ever talked to in regard to the school. If you really want something to laugh at, check out how much money tOSU spent on their new logo that is literally the exact same, pretty sure a kid with "Paint" on their computer could've created the new one. Such a joke and waste of money. http://www.landgrantholyland.com/2013/2 ... hool-45000

I don't know how I'll wrap my head around it if we run the table at home. But we can't look ahead to Louisville yet. Stumbling against UCF would undo a lot of the progress the Ponies have made this year.

Yeah, you're right Music, pretty ignorant comment on my part to be honest. School branding has never crossed my mind as a fan. But it's all a business and therefore should probably be treated as such if you're going to protect it's integrity.
