According to the always trusty SMU basketball factbook:

Feb 16, 1978 [1] Arkansas at SMU (SMU lost 86-75) is the only time. We have played No. 1 teams on the road (or in conference/NCAA tournaments) a ton though!

Memphis was No. 1 when we played them in Memphis in 2008 but they were No. 2 when we played them at Moody.

Women's basketball has never hosted a No. 1.

And, to be complete for Moody, volleyball has never hosted a No. 1 either.

Go Mustangs!

I remember we had standing room only tickets and we ended up buying tickets from a scalper outside Moody so we could sit. My dad really bitched about the price, I think we had to pay 10 bucks a piece, my how times have changed.

And as a cool side note, me and my Dad were also at the Memphis game referenced above. No bandwagoners here!

Those were the days from 72 - 76 for me:!: We usually got there very early to get front row
student seats in the pull out bleachers:!: :!: Remember a fight that broke out among players
against A$M. A$M coach Shelby Metcalf threw a chair onto the court to start it I think. We took
a few steps onto the court towards the fight, and then decided we didn't need to be
there.
May the forth be with us.

Phi Slama Jama was the best team to ever play at Moody, regardless of ranking.

3 future 1st round NBA selections, including 2 HOFs who both made the NBA 50 all-time greatest list.

It's definitely hard to argue with that statement.

This UCONN game was the largest crowd ever for a women's basketball game at SMU--don't remember the announced number but would guesstimate 4500+

You are probably correct, but 1978 Arkansas with the "Triplets" (Moncrief, Delph, and Brewer) were pretty good.
