The journey started about 10 years ago. Long enough.

Depends upon your age and perspective. I say it happened 25 years ago, after Pye didn't let Larry Johnson into school and Dave Bliss subsequently left.

Seriously, my until a couple of weeks ago, my old SMU friends were debating the preference of going to the NIT and have a couple more games at Moody and making it to the finals or getting into the tournament and getting bounced in the first or second round. Now we debate--"WHY NOT US?"

Pretty fun stuff. Been awesome to watch them this year. Hopefully they can keep the ride going and ride it into the NCAA tourney. I can't imagine what Dallas would be saying next year if SMU went to at least the Sweet 16 while returning basically every critical piece and adding a great player.

It is not only the success of this men's basketball team. It is what a non formerly affiliated SMU Larry Brown says about our school. What no other coach has praised with such conviction and belief. His thankfulness and pure joy to be a part of our university. What he has done for our, and now his school, is immeasurable.

Mrydel - you are a wordsmith and have written your heart. I agree with everything you
have said except I am not embarrassed, I am born again. This has been a wonderful year.

Larry Brown is to be much praised. The timing of everything coming together like this is
amazing. Doherty, Orsini, Miller - and others getting a new practice facility; getting
Ryan, Nick, and Shawn - Miller & donors providing a renovation of Moody into a true
basketball palace - the hiring of Larry Brown - the promotion of the whole thing - and now
the team performing above our expectations.

This is just too good and it will get even better.

Agreed.

And I think some forget that Cannen and Williams were both 4 stars highly recruited out of HS (I know we got Williams on a transfer but some credit needs to go to Doherty for those gets plus Nick Russell - we aren't sitting on 22 wins without them . . . unsung heroes without a doubt and we WILL miss Williams and Russell next year no doubt even with Eman and another big man like this baseball JUCO guy . . . you can't easily replace all their experience and smarts).

Don't forget the beer. A very important ingredient to a very tough place to visit.

Add me to the list of completely happy with our accomplishments. It's all gravy from here. I remember circling that Moody opening date with UCONN back in the early fall and thinking how great it would be to pull off an upset….and then it actually happened! We've certainly had our moments of frustration this season but we've arrived at a level few could have predicted.

BTW: DID anybody here actually predict anything close to this? I wasn't here until recently. Anybody?

And the future's so bright I've gotta wear shades.

DO NOT BEAT YOURSELF UP. EVERY STINKIN' BASKETBALL ANALYST IN THE COUNTRY THOUGHT THIS WAS A GIMMICK.

I can say I was intrigued by the Larry Brown hire - and thought I genuinely thought it was a smart hire - but I didn't think it would yield results like that this fast.

Several weeks ago met Larry Brown. I told him "thanks for making SMU relevant again." He smiled and said thanks and told me of an encounter between Dave Bliss and him.

I will probably cross paths with LB at some point this summer as he summers up here. Of course summers got a bit shorter for him since he took this gig but I fully expect to see him on the street here. It's a small town and no matter how A-list you are you can't hide. I can't wait to thank him in person.

Can you elaborate on the encounter with Bliss?
