Perhaps. Hopefully SMU will release a statement soon to end the speculation.

Since he is probably only going to be here for this year it only punishes the team by sitting him. From what I read this is about what was going to happen if he did not become eligible this semester. You don't punish someone with a 7th grade reading level if they pass a class even if it is by the hair if their head. So I don't think he passed. With that being said, I will take him being out the first 5 games all day long over what could have happened.

I'm thinking the rumor started with "MK is going to miss LIKE 5 games cuz of grades." Then they took a selfie.

Agreed it is unlikely, it's just a possible scenario. However I will point out that we don't know that his grades were bad due to lack of ability. Most profs wouldn't fail him if he was trying either. He may have not been putting in the effort.

Like 5 games would still be a great win.

I would tend to agree in most cases but this is a history class with probably a lot of reading. And at a 7th grade reading level he may not have been reading fast enough to keep up with the volume of reading assignments.

It all sounds pretty weird to me in general. I don't understand this whole eligibility thing at all (he's not INeligible, but he's not eligible?). Really weird.
The only official thing I heard from LB was "Markus still has some work to do to become eligible . . . and we could know at any time"). So that's all I've heard/seen from an official source.
Anybody got anything better/different?
It's all very odd to me.
Just get the kid eligible bottom line.

I would agree. Not sure why they cant say at this time if he's playing or not. Also if not when is the earliest he can come back.

i would ignore this unless it comes from something official. I think we will be lucky to get him in January - and you should set your expectations accordingly.

the usual, common and traditional time when an ineligible player regains eligibility is the date that grades are posted which is about December 18.

I think they have said he is ineligible. So, he is until he is not. I would agree. Not sure why they cant say at this time if he's playing or not. Also if not when is the earliest he can come back.

My take as well. So that could have him back just in time for the Michigan game on 12/20 and AAC play. Great, he'll miss all the OOC games we'll need him for (Zag, Arky, Indy) but long enough to screw up our chemistry/rotation just in time for AAC play. OR we never see him in an SMU uniform again. OR he comes back next year and kills it with Tolbert. Or . . .
