They missed a TON of open looks behind the arc.. on another night they would've beaten us. Not to mention they left 8 points at the charity stripe. The frustrating thing is that going into this game we knew that they were going to shoot a lot of threes and we still didn't close their shooters down quick enough.

Defending the Arc isn't something we do right now. Concerning to say the least

Why is that, technically? Are we so focused on interior defense that we're not stepping out to meet a guy about to jack a three?

Because LB is an advocate of over help defense on the interior. His defensive philosophy is outdated with the current era of basketball.

I love LB and what he has done for the program but he needs to refine this or else the good shooting teams are going to destroy us from the arc.[/quote]

LB believes a three pointer is the first pass in your opponents' fast break.

They will shoot the 3, no doubt but that is not their primary plan as it was with EWU. Last year they did not have a sniper to hit the 3s. We were the exception to their rule. Had they shot 3s against us like they did the rest of the year we would have won.

Again, their primary force is heavy press and turnovers and their best player is big man Bobby Portis.

It would not surprise me to see them attempt more 3s due to our lack of defending but I am much more concerned with their relentless pressure on the ball.

They are going to run, we better be prepared and for crying out loud defend the three.

smu clamped down on the 3 in the second half but #1 still hit some crayz long ones.
if 55 had been able to hit fts we would have been in a dog fight at the end.

EWU ends Indiana's 43-game non-conf home win streak. Again, they ain't bad.

That's an impressive win for EWU. Kudos. I'm not going to say that we "should have won" against IU, but I do think we are the better team. Killed ourselves in that one.

Won't be making the tournament...or even coming close for that matter.

The win vs. EWU might be a win against a tourney team when the time comes. Not sure that a W vs IU would be.

Of course, we need IU to win some B10 games so that their loss does not look bad...

IU plays Pitt in a few days. Hopefully they beat them. If IU has a bad year it will be a bad loss. Last years SMU had several good wins but the bad losses out weighed the good wins. This might be one if IU doesn't at least have a decent season.

It's going to probably be an RPI 101-150 loss. Not an awful loss, but certainly don't want it on the resume. Hopefully IU finishes inside the top 100 RPI, then it would be overlooked when it comes to seeding and what not much easier.

Early in the season and no MK should mitigate IU loss somewhat. (Of course depending on what happens the rest of the way.)
