Re: Less Ben EmeloguStupid thread when it was started.
Now, not so stupid. Good kid, but time's up dude. Have to start contributing positively and for more minutes. Need his TO:Assist ratio and 3 pt % to go up 10% or I question his scholly needing to be renewed next year.
Re: Less Ben EmeloguAgreed. I may have jumped the gun a little early when I originally posted this, but man he's been awful. I can't think of one thing that he does well.
Re: Less Ben EmeloguI'm not ready to give up on him yet. It's not like he's getting a ton of minutes anyway.
Not exactly the same, but he reminds me a little of Keith last year. Every time he makes a solid play, he seems to blow it with a bonehead move on the other end.
Re: Less Ben EmeloguLike it or not he isn't going anywhere. No Martin. No Frazier. What other option does lb have when nic manual and brown are on the bench? Next guy up after him at guard would be like wilfong technically
SMU Class of 2014
Re: Less Ben Emeloguwilfong couln't do any worse.
Re: Less Ben EmeloguI want Ben to succeed as we really need him to.
But I couldn't help but think "Keitttthhhhh would have made that" wide open three from the corner in the second half - just when we needed a three ball. Perhaps next year... "Moral Victories Make Me Sick" - TR

Re: Less Ben EmeloguHe's just not right - maybe next year in supporting role.
3 on 1 break and he passes directly to the only guy Cincy had running back to defend. Grade school players can routinely make that play.
Re: Less Ben EmeloguA) he hasn't been in the system for a full year
B) he was thrust into this increased role with the Frazier Ineligibility I know we need him to succeed right now and were not getting the results we want but I can still see this guy being a contributor for us at some point in his smu career SMU Class of 2014
Re: Less Ben Emelogu
Damn, thats really how you feel? The NCAA can't move fast enough w/ guaranteeing 4 year rides.
Re: Less Ben EmeloguGu had a bad game; it happens. How soon everyone forgets the game he had against UCF. We got whipped last night because UC has bigs who can neutralize ours and their guards outplayed ours. For this SMU team to finish strong, we need Gu to step up the way Sterling Brown has. UC worked hard to not give little Nic any good looks and Ryan and Gu gave us nothing outside to keep the defense honest. We have a brutal stretch ahead and are going to need Gu to step up his game. All I hear from the coach and his teammates is that he does it with regularity in practice. Time for him to get his head right because he's an important part of this team.
Re: Less Ben EmeloguBen arrived on campus pretty confident in himself and maybe a bit cocky. He had been a starter at VATEC, had the liberty to take bad shots, was a frosh captain and maybe thought he was much better than he really is. In addition, to show leadership/brashness he even tweeted things about the football team getting things together and taking them on in his earliest days on campus. Maybe his vision and expectations were clouded from reality. Suddenly he was on a team with kids of similar or better talent, a huge transition to a perfectionist hall of fame coach, tougher academics and suddenly the big fish syndrome went by the way. Now we have a talented kid who has had to refocus in a totally different setting. He has obviously lost some confidence, maybe doubts his decision to transfer, but he is a fighter and is battling to regain his confidence and overcome a coach who has much higher requirements, attention to detail and expectations which
is far beyond anything he has ever experienced. This takes time as we have seen with KF, Yanick, MK and most of the others. I have confidence this kid will play a substantial role in the SMU basketball program in the next 2 years. I will not get down on him as he struggles to find himself and understand the very complex requirements of LB. Maybe this year will be rough and we should not be so blatantly critical. LB knows what he is doing so we do not need critical threads on a 19 year old kid who is struggling to make it through both the academic and sports meat grinder. We can revisit this issue next year at which time I will opine that he has become a valuable contributor to the team.
Re: Less Ben Emeloguor he might be a key contributor as early as tonight's game vs Tulsa. We are just one guard in early foul trouble away from relying on Gu to step up his game and to play significant minutes. We've been really fortunate that none of our guys have gotten into foul trouble but as the difficulty of the schedule increases, the odds increase that we are going to face that challenge.
Re: Less Ben EmeloguLess Ben E? Who do you suggest gets his minutes? This thread is a troll fest.
I miss Troy Matthews.
Re: Less Ben EmeloguOne of these games we are going to have an injury or foul troubles and will need him to contribute. Just needs to play within the limitations of his game like Manuel has
