Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD StThis makes sense.
Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD StThere is a new story at top of ESPN now. I am confused, they seem to be relating it to the DISD issue which I thought was cleared a year and a half ago. What is new now?
Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD StWe are losing KF and Ulric, which is big, but nothing else will happen.
SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four
2014-15 & 2016-17 AAC Men's Basketball Champs
Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD St
I hope you're right. Have a hard time being so optimistic myself...
Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD StSo, we have Frazier out with grades but still under appeal. Ulric suspended because of the investigation.
The interesting thing is that if Frazier was implicated in the investigation, wouldn't he have been suspended at the the same time as Ulric? There are a lot of assumptions about the Ulric investigation, but it seems like they would have suspended both at the same time if they were related.
Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD StI question that as well.
Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD Stsee I don't. He was certified by NCAA Clearinghouse. I don't remember the NCAA ever taking that back a few years later. What his transcript said and what Maligi knew or did however could be a separate issue

Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD StThis is what really confuses me. If Frazier cleared the NCAA clearinghouse, I don't understand how that is part of the issue, unless of course, there is evidence that Maligi did something that no on knows about. If it is about one professor griping about pressure from the athletic department concerning keeping athletes eligible, hell join the world of every other college.
Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD StJust throwing out this random tweet back to Bruce Feldman. Not verified. Could this be related to that story about 10 days ago about the guy who manufactured eligibility for "hundreds" of athletes over the last decade or so. He said he was working with NCAA

Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD StHere is the Sports Illustrated story talking about a grade fixer who was working with NCAA

Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD StLooking over SMU's public statement in reaction to the Bret Shipp report they put out last year -- it had some pretty clear and strong language in it. Clearly, SMU didn't see any wrongdoing at the time. Would love to see what the NCAA is alleging. (maybe there's something new in there regarding Maligi and Mudiay - who the eff knows).
I'm going to trust Hart in terms of SMU not getting the big hammer.
Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD StObviously, more info will come out, but it looks like the question in re SMU and the NCAA is the purpose and content of the conversations Maligi had with the Kimball teachers, coaches, and counselors around the time the grade in question for Keith was in the process of being reviewed and eventually changed. The earlier Observer story stated Maligi contacted the school several times, including on the day the grade was changed. It also reflected this as a common practice with NCAA coaches contacting school often if potential players could have issues so they are kept abreast of the implications. The question is, was there anything other than questions being asked in these and other possible written or recorded conversations? I believe they need a smoking gun to really pin it on Maligi and SMU for this, but if he sent a text or an email saying Keith's grade needed to be changed, or anything to that point, this could get bad. Nothing will make the NCAA salivate more than being able to throw the book at SMU for something like this in an attempt to cover up their spineless capitulation to State Penn and the JoPa youth protection association.
Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD StThey have Maligi's laptop, online class work was done on it supposedly. The worry is that we sat someone for Fraziers boards.
Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD St
You mean someone took some tests for him? Mustangs Abu!
Re: Hopefully SMU Only Tangentally Involved with the DISD St
I'm telling you that's worse case scenario and been talked about, but hope its not that bad. If we get to barter w/the NCAA over scholarships, I'd rather keep Ulric and lose 2, than lose one w/Ulric being fired. We obviously had to roll on Ulric to some degree, so somebody better take care of him when its all said and done
