Re: MK playing scared late?MK not playing scared. He was a great player before last night, and he still is now.
First and foremost, give credit to Cincy. They have quality bigs and they had the right game plan against MK. They smothered him big time. Second, the smothering of MK down low often looked to me more like a raping. And yet the refs didn't seem to call many fouls. That happens. . .not blaming the refs. But it seemed like when we couldn't do whatever we wanted down low. . .and the refs weren't going to bail us out. . .that we had no other gameplan or answers. Finally, I thought our defense against Cincy looked pretty good. Some of those shots they were hitting late in the game with the shot clock running out were just a whipping. Not going to say they just got lucky, but sometimes the shots fall for you even when the other team is doing everything right. It happened. Move on. Let's go to Tulsa and get a W!
Re: MK playing scared late?Cincy played really great D, we couldn't hit a thing. If Nic, Yannick, and Markus are off, we aren't going to win very many games. The good news is, the odds of all of them being off at the same time are not that good.
Team will be ready, beat Tulsa @ Tulsa.
Re: MK playing scared late?Markus just got out-played last night. And all of our big guys took too long with the ball inside, especially late. Cincinnati had hands all over the place before they even started going to the basket.
The only play from Markus that really frustrated me last night was complaining about a "no call" while the ball is still live and rolling down the court... I kind of thought there should have been a foul called, too, but that play was pretty indicative of our entire team's attitude late in the game. Cincinnati played better than us in the second half, but they also played a lot harder. Oh well, I think our guys will learn from this. A win on Saturday against Tulsa would go a long way towards getting past this one. Last edited by SMU Section F on Fri Feb 06, 2015 11:31 am, edited 1 time in total.
Re: MK playing scared late?Every once in a while the argument that the team who makes shots wins holds water.
Re: MK playing scared late?
Yep. But for people having a slow Friday, we can spend all day over-thinking why one team made shots and the other one didn't.
Re: MK playing scared late?We played horribly in the second half and they played horribly in the first half when we should have built a huge lead. Everyone played bad except Cannen and Sterling. Nick has to get more help to get open looks from LB or he struggles to score. I don't understand the coaching on that. And at times Kennedy was open down low and our guards just passed him by. I would start Cannen and Kennedy next game for a shakeup. And if our bench was deeper Ben Moore would barely be getting minutes the way he is playing this year. Ben E-just a huge wow. How did he play so well for Va Tech last year. We are really only 6 deep presently with the way BMoore and Emegolu are playing. That isn't going to take us very far the rest of this season if it doesn't change somehow.
Re: MK playing scared late?Way over reaction on Ben Moore. Quite frankly nonsense. Last nite I'll admit he gave us nothing in 14 minutes. Cincy is a tough matchup for Ben Moore-no doubt. But Ben plays defense, moves the ball, sets screens, steals (3rd on team), assists (2nd on team), blocks out, hustles, rebounds (he was second on the team before last nite), I question how much a poster knows about college basketball if they don't understand how much he contributes to this team. Larry would laugh in your face. Come on show you have some appreciation for the game of basketball except for scoring. BTW he played only 9 minutes out of last 35 minutes and it was the final 25 minutes SMU got dominated

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: MK playing scared late?He contributed almost nothing in the first half and was seemingly pulled. Yes, he does some things well on defense[not rebounding]at times but he brings almost nothing to the table on offense and gets out muscled often especially down low. I know he has more to offer then he is showing this year but it isn't happening often enough.

Re: MK playing scared late?Ben is stuck somewhere between an effective interior player and effective slasher/jump shooter. I think this offseason it's critical that he establishes a concrete role on the team and works on it all summer. He's got skill, size, natural ability.
MK just got beat tonight. Physically he was knocked around a ton, but my biggest qualm with the refs last night was that MK got absolutely no love under the hoop, he's just strong enough to get the ball up to the rim in heavy traffic. Big dogs (Yanick and MK) have to eat against Tulsa. #GodFather #Tempo
Re: MK playing scared late?
A little over 5 boards a game is not a lot for minutes played. No one boards that well on this team except Kennedy on occasion.
Re: MK playing scared late?
Yanick is 6th in the conference at 6.7 rebounds per game, and he's 2nd in rebounds per 40 minutes at 12.0. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketb ... conference SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four
