Re: Last straw on the game presentationIt felt like Old New Moody last night. Students were great (and drunk), the entire crowd was loud, Cincy timeout (queue Seven Nation Army) everybody is getting pumped...and then they turned off the music and the band delivered the ultimate buzz kill of the night. This particular moment of the game probably hurt more than the loss.
Note: I love the band, they do a great job and this was not their fault. This falls on the person running game presentation.
Re: Last straw on the game presentationThat was awful.
Re: Last straw on the game presentationI'm not as big a stickler for game presentation as some are here (and basketball is still thousands of times better than football), but that moment really was an obvious mistake.
Re: Last straw on the game presentation
Knowing nothing more than its SMU, my guess is the former
Re: Last straw on the game presentationguys we didn't lose because of game production. we got killed on the boards and allowed a team that doesn't normally shoot well (albeit a lot of tough/lucky shots) to shoot 57% in our building...
gotta get it turned around and get a win tomorrow
Re: Last straw on the game presentationAnd we missed too many free throws
Re: Last straw on the game presentation
Of course we didn't, but does that mean that we shouldn't expect improvement? A lot of people complain about our game presentation even when we win. It's a pretty popular topic.
Re: Last straw on the game presentation
no doubt there, just trying to give some perspective
Re: Last straw on the game presentationHere's your perspective; the professionals in charge can't control 100% whether a kid has a good shooting night or the rim just seems too small on a certain night, but they can control how their staff runs the game. Attention to detail and respect for ones job separates the mediocre and half-wits from the successful. Well, every time we take that step forward, we seem to find a way to stumble back. We are getting it, but it shouldn't take 10 mistakes before we learn the lesson.
Re: Last straw on the game presentationThe "DJ" aka production guy is a band alum. He's always going to be sympathetic towards getting the band playing time.

Re: Last straw on the game presentationhow much does the dj gig pay? why hasn't someone on here in the dallas area, with some sort of musical/technical acumen, tried to volunteer to do this for free? i'd be scratching and clawing to get that job for free if i lived near dallas.
@seagulls00
Re: Last straw on the game presentationOf course the game presentation didn't make us miss all of those free pitches, but it sure does help have the crowd more rowdy and loud for Cincy offensive possessions.
It's a shame we don't maximize our home-court advantage because of easily correctable things. Shake It Off Moody
Re: Last straw on the game presentation
The guy who left for Cincy wasn't the DJ, he was the person who put together the game presentation. They MIGHT have swapped out DJs as well, but the loss of the game presentation architect was the biggest hit. My understanding is that the Director of Marketing worked as the DJ last year. Not sure if it is the same guy this year. But I believe that the game presentation guy (who is an SMU alum) really wanted to stay, but it was a combination of money and control that moved him along.
Re: Last straw on the game presentation
Well that is just pathetic on SMU's part. Pony Up!
Re: Last straw on the game presentation
I'm not going to blame the loss on the idiotic DJ/Game Presentation but you are severely underestimating the noise value in a game like this. As mentioned before, visitors can't hear anything from coach during timeout. Our team gets energized by the noise. Either of these factors in play ABSOLUTELY change the game.
