we are a six seed now....WIn the tourney and lock up that 5 seed. Four or five is the same...claw up to five and we are in a good spot.

Will be surprised (pleasantly so) if the Committee is that generous, even in that case. Think it will be a 6 seed at best, but no lower than 7. Any lower and it will be yet another example of intentional disrespect.

I agree and nice simple illustration of it. Removing the seeds in commons between the two leaves:
6 seed 11-3
5 seed 12-4.
Clearly the advantage goes to the 5 seed.

I think if someone says they prefer a 6 over a 5 it means they think there is a very nearly 0% chance of beating a 1 seed and/or they have set their sights on making the great 8 instead of hoping to win the whole thing. Once you make the sweet 16 I say dare to dream of winning it all and hope for the easiest path to make that happen. 5 over 6 in this case.

it is almost 100 pct chance of losing to a 1 seed on any neutral court - so you want to hit them as late as possible, so that someone else knocks them out (not likely) or someone gets hurt, therefore changing your odds. I prefer the 6 route to the 5 for that reason.

Avoid number 1 seed as long as possible - and maybe in a final game you can sneak a win (see UCONN last year).
