Losing some height next year but gaining some shootersModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Losing some height next year but gaining some shootersI think Tolbert and Semi will do well.
Re: Losing some height next year but gaining some shooters
Isn't Semi a SF and Tolbert is a PF? I miss Troy Matthews.
Re: Losing some height next year but gaining some shooters
I mean just having some size and rebound presence.
Re: Losing some height next year but gaining some shootersThere really aren't PF and SF anymore. There are2 post, 2 guards and a point.
Re: Losing some height next year but gaining some shootersIf you want to compete against the top teams in the country, you need 7 footers.
I miss Troy Matthews.
Re: Losing some height next year but gaining some shootersHopefully Larry is looking for another Big... I'm sure he has a plan.
Re: Losing some height next year but gaining some shooters
I know they are looking, of course in college you could get away with a guys that are 6-9 or so with long arms and athleticism.
Re: Losing some height next year but gaining some shootersThis season, we dominated teams that couldn't match our front court, but teams with a lot of length (Gonzaga, Cincy, UCLA) really bothered us.
Next year's team will play completely differently; it will be interesting to see the transition. Players like Kennedy and Sterling are the types of players LB loves with their physical play, and I think the TT transfer will give us another one of those types of players. But next year will be a perimeter team. If you think of a team having 2 posts, The players who will play the 4 (Ben Moore and Semi) would both rather play on the perimeter, and Kennedy and Tolbert aren't traditional 5s. I know Tolbert is a 4, but he will have to play lower post because of his physical nature. I think in the end, more perimeter players, better shooting (KF and improved Gu), will make us less consistent (we will have off shooting nights that cost us games we really should win), but will make us a more dangerous tourney team. More than anything, I expect a slow start next season. It took us half a year to identify the defensive replacement for Russell, and that might happen again. Lots of new players, and we won't be dominant down low to bail us out. Gu will be a lot better. We don't have a good rotation down low until Semi comes in. PG: Sed/Shake SG: Nic/KF 3: Sterling/Gu "4": Moore/Semi "5": MK/Tolbert Houston recruit redshirts. If we pull in another big I thin it is a sign that a player is leaving. That said, we are going to see a lot of 4 perimeter sets to move around the perimeter and give space in the lane . Two guards out high and two players sitting on the wings. Isolate a point high on one side, then pull the post to the elbow and run the pick and roll all day long. If they collapse on the pick, then you have Nic to kick out to high, and Sterling and Semi to hit the baseline 3 on either side, depending where the collapse comes from. Parker/Duncan/Manu/Bowen
Re: Losing some height next year but gaining some shooters
We have one more scholarship to give and we are bringing in 3 guards. I don't think we use it on another guard and if we use it on a big I don't think it is necessarily a sign that MK is leaving. Even if MK stays would you rather have another guard when we really need another big? "We will play man to man and we will pick you up at the airport." - Larry Brown

Re: Losing some height next year but gaining some shooters
Jesus, thank you! I'm so tired of people saying we won't have a center. That's not how this offense works
Re: Losing some height next year but gaining some shooters
That's a farce
Re: Losing some height next year but gaining some shooters
In college, you can get away w/6-7 posts, if they are balls tough
Re: Losing some height next year but gaining some shooters
I agree you can get a away with it, but you are better off if you have a 6-10 rim protector, not required but A Great asset to have.
Re: Losing some height next year but gaining some shooters
You also said that we would not miss Mudiay and that Emelgu was a really good player. If we go to two 6'7 players in the post we will truly be headed towards mid major status in the long run. Not very many Dayton's around. If Kennedy comes back next year we will be able to better get away with it but after that we would not be in the best of shape imo. #HammerDown
Re: Losing some height next year but gaining some shootersOf course we were not better off without mudiay. Emelogu had a rough year but he has talent and the physical tools to be a good player (I could see him stepping into RM's role with hard work).
In college players leave, if we don't get a big this year I think we will be ok based on what we have but you have to believe that bugs would be a huge priority for the 2016 class.
