Re: AAC 2017 MBB TournamentNo, I remember, even though the Pelicans are easy to forget. But I dont know if we could get that venue, you have to work around their schedule, or if its economically feasible. I know they had the SEC tournament there a few years ago, but that was before their last renovation, and since then they've only hosted one night events (Concerts, UFC, etc.) during basketball season. They've had NCAA tournament games there, but the last was 5 years ago. A conference tournament needs the venue for a week, and I dont know if The SMoothie King would even be interested. Other venues have shown they are willing and able.
Re: AAC 2017 MBB TournamentMemphis didn't have a problem with it, and you suggested AAC in D, which operates a similar schedule. Not arguing, but NO is just as feasible as D or Hou.
Re: AAC 2017 MBB Tournament
Yes, but those venues host college basketball games every year, often several in a year. A year does not go by that AAC doesnt host either mens or womens NCAA tournament games, and they have had the Big 12 mens and womens conference tournaments several times, each. AAC will have a womens regional this year, and the Final Four, next year. The Smoothie King Center hasnt had a college game there since before it changed its name. I'm not saying that it cant be done, but they dont seem as open to hosting college games.
Re: AAC 2017 MBB TournamentTulane played Memphis there last season
Re: AAC 2017 MBB Tournament
I retract my statement then, sorry. Why did they move the game, was Fogelman still under renovation?
Re: AAC 2017 MBB TournamentIt was the not far from the time we played Tulane at Fogelman, so not sure.
Doesn't really say here http://www.tulanegreenwave.com/sports/m ... 15aaa.html Maybe the reverse of when their football team would play one game a year at Tad Gormley
Re: AAC 2017 MBB Tournament
The sun belt moved its tournament there from hot springs where it was drawing 3000 a game in the late rounds to New Orleans where there are about 200 a game. Lake front arena is not near down town. It's not a town for a bb tournament I only for any conference other than the sec. Saint Louis has done well with the mvc tournament over the years due to several schools being close. Memphis or Dallas could be grown into a good home for the tournament. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Re: AAC 2017 MBB TournamentFYI, it's going back to Connecticut. No one else bid on it.
Re: AAC 2017 MBB Tournament
Surely, you can't be serious.
Re: AAC 2017 MBB Tournamentsmusic is always serious when it comes to tournament talk.
SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four
2014-15 & 2016-17 AAC Men's Basketball Champs
Re: AAC 2017 MBB TournamentAnd don't call him Shirley
Re: AAC 2017 MBB Tournament
No. They finished the Fogelman/Devlin renovation several years ago. They played at Smoothie King to be able to sell more tickets

Ha good catch! ![]()
Re: AAC 2017 MBB Tournament
Agree! And for the record, my choice of words was intended as a setup. More seriously though, I don't understand why SMU wouldn't bid. Perhaps AAC/Mavericks declined to cooperate? Last edited by Dukie on Thu Feb 04, 2016 10:47 am, edited 1 time in total.
Re: AAC 2017 MBB TournamentWhen bidding happened (think they chose 5 years out) we were not a solid program
