They were at the CB then too which was more of a pain. We can make excuses for the student apathy but excuses are like a$$h----......
Because there are no SMU fans, there is no culture of fandom which out of state people can get indoctrinated in. Litterally, the only place I ever heard a positive word about SMU football was in the band. There is no spirit of caring anywhere. Where there is a pep-rally, itis truly a joke, with maybe one or two greek groups to support the football team by yelling "go tri delt" and going back to their houses. The administration has a long, long way to go before it can expect students to suffer the horrible product we produce. I've seen very little effort on campus to get students to the games.

Going to sporting events at SMU is not the "cool thing to do" as there is ~ 60% Greek or something like that..they'd rather go drinking, socialize or whatever.

Are they still doing spirit at Aero or has that changed? I went to USC in L.A. for 1 1/2 years and the spirit is unbelievable and comparable to any school I have seen (at least in fball).

All the points above are valid from other posters - we need to win obviously but I am not sure that would help unless we were Top 25 for 2-3 yrs in a row, in a bowl game, or the dance continuously.

hahaha, Spirit at AARO. I believe they spend about 15 minutes on it, if that. And the people they have doing it have no idea what they are talking about. Some AARO groups were taught that Pony Battle Cry is a chant and has no music. It is people with no spirit teaching spirit, as required by their job. Then they move quickly on to discuss other things.

I will confess that as a kid growing up in Dallas, I followed Texas football moreso than SMU...and Hayden Fry was a neighbor of ours. In those days, it seemed like the annual Texas/Arkansas game always set up as the SWC championship game, if not the national championship game. Only the 1963 season stands out in my mind as far as SMU football goes.

Now Doc Hayes' Mustangs were a different story. I followed that bunch much more closely, so I guess it's true that winning will draw more attention to SMU. I think Dement is very close and we can only hope this football program starts winning next year. Imagine the recruits who might look our way if we were having the same level of success as TCU?
