Coach JankovichModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Coach jankovichAnyone else feel like the honeymoon is over for Jank at this point? He’s been out coached brutally recently.

Re: Coach jankovich
how dare him for losing his 1st game ever at Moody. Losses are great for 2nd guessing but have to give Temple credit for playing one of their better games this year in a hostile environment and for making some clutch shots in that last minute after having blown a 13 point lead.
Re: Coach JankovichTemple is our streak killer...SMU was 18-0 during the probation season, Temple ended the streak.

Re: Coach JankovichIf you pressure they're not going to just jack up a shot but more likely give up an easier shot. Don't get this complaint, not a lot you can do there but play solid D and hope you go to OT. We played OK D but I wouldn't say it was a bad shot, I would have liked Foster to be a little more physical with him as he was backing him down.
On the prior possession, I agree a quicker shot would have been nice. Jank said postgame that he was screaming for a timeout but the players didn't hear him. I love that we lost for the first time in two years at home and now Jank can no longer coach and we no longer are a hostile environment. Good grief - get a grip.
Re: Coach jankovich
I would have pressured them to run the play and hope one of their kids gets nervous and makes a mistake with an errant pass or premature jump shot. Worst case, they score early and we at least get a reasonable chance to tie the game. As it played out the best case was they miss and we go to OT.
Re: Coach JankovichHow about shooting higher than 52% from the free throw line and not being in that position at all?
And that 52% includes Shake's 5-6 night from the line. We lost this game on the freebies. period. "Moral Victories Make Me Sick" - TR

Re: Coach Jankovichwe had stopped them like 10 of the last 12 possessions
Re: Coach Jankovich
It's funny that the pressure worked against us when we played UCLA in the tournament.
Re: Coach JankovichFTs hurt for sure, as did Jarrey not being close on his jumpers. But to me it was Chagrois not showing up at all that hurt the most. Jank isn't going to call him out in the press, but I would love to know his true thoughts there. KT absolutely lit into Ethan about 4 minutes in to the first half when he wasn't playing physical D AT ALL, while also giving up easy offensive boards. He got yanked after that and only played a handful of additional minutes in the first half, where he once again got cussed out by KT for lacking on D and the boards. Second half starts, and the exact same thing happened, except this time it was Forrest chewing him out. He didn't see the floor again until the last second.
I know we have been working on interior defensive intensity and rebounding in practice for weeks and the coaches frustration that it's not sinking in with Ethan was telling. Critical week of practice for him - how will he handle the adversity?
Re: Coach jankovich
or just maybe our fans have become complacent and can only get up for Cincy or WSU or USC? Maybe they expect a rather pedestrian win against everyone else...that would be more typical of the SMU fan base. All I know is that last night, both the team and crowd finished strong
Re: Coach Jankovich
We'll just have to wait and see if the Chargois we all knew and loved returns to form but I'm not going to pass judgment on a kid who was too sick to travel to New Orleans just a week ago.
Re: Coach jankovich
At least W did not have to sit through that performance last night. "Moral Victories Make Me Sick" - TR

Re: Coach JankovichI hope you are right and that he is still not feeling well and that's the reason. You would think the coaches would cut him more slack if that were the case - they were all over him last night though. Doesn't really matter I guess, either way it's an important week for him and we'll see what happens in an obviously tough environment next Wednesday.
Re: the comments on our crowd last night, I thought the crowd was great considering there was really very little to cheer for until about the 8:00 minute mark of the second half. The crowd and Shake nearly willed the team to a win, in a game that we had absolutely no business winning.
Re: Coach Jankovich
100%. Chargois has got to rebound and play adequate D in conference play. His shot hasn't been falling either so I tend to believe that it has something to do with being sick and having some bad practices, but RI nailed it. This week for his is a huge week of practice. I think the disappearance of Whitt and McMurray is just as big as Chargois disappearance. You can't have 3 of your core 6 man rotation just play like garbage 3 straight games and expect to win many of them.
