No doubt. I get bashed for not bashing June Jones, but the truth is that I am thankful to most of our coaches for whatever it is they bring to SMU. Matt Doherty left Larry Brown with some good pieces, which he built on. Now hopefully Jankovich can elevate the program even more. Phil Bennett left June Jones some solid players which he was able to win with. June Jones took us to 4 Bowl games and proved that you can win (albeit not win big) at SMU and you don't even have to go all out effort to do so. Now Chad Morris is restoring our talent base. No doubt some will be ungrateful to Morris and Jankovich when they leave.

Who exactly is turning on LB? 99% on here are thankful for what he has done. He performed a miracle making one of the worst bball programs in the country a powerhouse. Trust me, if Morris elevates the program but then leaves for greener pastures 3-4 years from now, most will be grateful. What the hell did Jones, Doherty, or Bennett ever do for us in terms of making our program relevant or competitive? Not much.

Smu hits self destruct button anytime a program gets too good. The only program we can't keep out of the top 25 is equestrian.

Haha...so much truth here. With out LB, then we never would have had LB as a coach. No [deleted]!
No one said this transition was going to be easy. Should have happened next year or after 17-18 season. That's the breaks. Larry is pulling a Larry. Not bashing him...he revitalized a program like few could. His star power drew players and fans in faster than we could have hoped with any other hire. But, that's gone. He's gone. He chose to leave, choose to walk out on the players he previously stated were his #1 concern. He chose a path he knew would lead to issues and ignored the APR impact. And he chose to make this public at the worst time possible (seemingly without even engaging his agent, a very odd and emotional act).

There's no reason to cry or lash out. This isn't JJ. We move on and forward with his named successor taking the reigns. The players seem to be moving on already based on reports, and the staff is doing so as well. It will be a test and a challenge, but I believe we have the players and staff leadership to pass it and meet the challenge.

Which leaves the last remaining test to discuss, and Maury wants Football Dad's kids to know that their dream at a successful life is closer now than ever before because the results are in and...he is NOT the father. Insert Maury victory dance by relieved mom here and fade to commercial.

Hahaha. But you're presuming a lot about nature over "nurture" (or whatever growing up under that guy's control might reasonably be called).

let's be honest... Larry is still a legend! But like everyone, he has his price and he was disrespected. they were offering him 3 years, which I am cool with, but a non-guaranteed after first year and a pay-cut???!?! If you ask me it was GT behind this, Bc he is tired of the negative publicity. It is a slap in the face to Larry to offer him the contract they did. But we can't forget the good Larry brought

SMU Athletic Director and President need to hold a press conference immediately!
1) Sincerely thank Coach Brown for building a National Power in Basketball
2) Recognize that Coach Brown was definitely getting old...I believe he is 75
3) Definitely wish SMU would have kept Coach Brown at SMU in some capacity
4) Move past the NCAA Sanctions, there is nothing more SMU can do about that
5) Congratulate Coach Jank on becoming the next Head Coach at SMU
6) I believe Coach Jank was 17-0 at SMU last year, this should be the story
7) Reassure the alumni, fans, players, and recruits that the program is in good hands with Jank

SMU Alumni and SMU Fans do not forget to be grateful for what Larry Brown did at SMU. No need to be mad or upset. SMU is in good hands with Coach Jank!

Not the way they do things to call a press conference when someone leaves — coach steps down or gets fired, player transfers. SMU doesn't announce departures except in the case of a high-profile firing. Not saying it's right or wrong — just how they handle things.

I'm still feeling pretty positive about this development. With our lack of bigs on next year's roster, Jank's more up tempo style of play and the guys having more freedom to jack open threes...we just might be in for a really entertaining 2016-17 season

Go back to day one and I do not think most of us believed LB would be here more than a couple of years. He has done wonders for the program and Moody is still standing. Jank is liked by the players and a proven recruiter.

I am much more concerned with the APR than I am the team and I believe Jank will be more skilled in that area than was LB. If we can get through this year without a sanction I believe the upward trend continues.

You have to be an eternal optimist to be a SMU fan and I understand that we have all learned how to take a blow and then look to the future, but unless there is more to this story than a contract dispute, SMU has made a terrible mistake.

Those of you that say you are excited about Janks open offense and can't wait to see 3's being jacked up and how much more the players like playing for him will be the first to start complaining about a lack of discipline after our first unexpected loss.

I find it interesting that Jank gets huge credit for our recruits but none of the blame for the ones that don't turn out or any other issues.

The bright publicity spotlight that shines on Larry and therefore us has just been turned off. I certainly hope the wheels don't come off, but I have none of the confidence that some on this board are spouting.

Maybe because Jank wasn't the one pushing for the likes of the ones who "don't turn out"

Agree. The over-under when LB arrived was 2 years, and if I were told he would be here for four at that time I would have been happy.

On the bright side our recruiters don't have to contend with recruiters telling prospects our coach is going to leave. Moody Magic isn't leaving with LB. And Jank comes into the season 9-0 with the Mustangs and will show recruits they can play here and win.
