SMU - UTEP Game ThreadModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Once again, Turnovers is the key...these were frustrating TOs as well, most were unforced, UTEP wasn't really pressing us....5 second calls, stepping on the end line, losing the dribble.
Entertaining game, but we should have won that. Poor McCoy could not buy one tonight. Oh well, nice effort, need to work on more things, maybe we can get it done at home against Tulsa. Came down to making their desperation 40 footer, and we missed ours, course should have never come to that. Womack + Wishbone = Heisman

It was turnovers. A couple fewer and we win that game. We could have had 20 TOs and still won.
But no. We lost. Again.
What a surprise - thanks for the original comments Pony putz.

Scoring was unbelievable.
SMU had a 46-31 , 15 point lead, with more than 10 minutes left and they go on to score 12 more points in over 10 minutes of regulation and 5 minutes of overtime, that just won't get it done, even with the Miners playing just as bad. Womack + Wishbone = Heisman

3 points in overtime is PATHETIC! No reasonable person can disagree with that assessment. I missed the game, but how crappy did we look in OT? The only possible saving grace would be that we held UTEP to 5 in OT. The problem lies in that 5 is 67% higher than 3.
Derail the Frogs!
McCoy was 2-13 for 7 points. He missed many wide open looks and did not make great decisions, he even blew a layup.
What a total heartbreaker to play so well in that one spurt only to have it all fall slowly apart. Just looking at the final, SMU can feel good with the effort against a good team on the road, a game they were 17 point underdogs, but we need to get these done. That was Doherty's first overtime loss, he is now 3-1. Womack + Wishbone = Heisman

What was up with the radio broadcast? When my All Access froze up for a couple of minutes I turned on the Radio and the play by play was hardly audible, though the commercials were fine.
Did they ever say what was wrong? Womack + Wishbone = Heisman

I had the same problem.
@ Rice, @UAB, @Marshall, UTEP, ECU, @UTEP were all winnable (coulda shoulda woulda) games. Pretty big swing Yes, they need a leader, no doubt. Especially watching that @UAB debacle and at the end of regulation tonight.
And 5-11 in games decided by 7 points or more. Almost an identical losing % I don't think we choke during close games, I simply think we are a lousy BB team that will find ways to lose, regardless of opponent, venue or anything else.
We do not have the player who in a pinch can pick up the team in carry it on his back. Perhaps down the road that may be McCoy. But without a few folks to help him by draining a three or blocking out on the defensive boards, or setting a rattling pick, these are the outcomes you're going to get. I watched a little bit of the Maryland-Duke game that was war. One of the Duke players was knocked out cold on a clean pick. If I were Doh, I would be showing that play to Dia, Nyakundi, Faye, and Fall and ask why he hasn't seen any opponents shaking the cobwebs out. Its little things we aren't doing that lead to losses. In a close game, we're talking about hitting one extra basket or making one extra free throw, or getting one extra rebound.
