I will confirm this "rumor". There was a mistake with the calculations of Bamba's grades. He WILL IN FACT be playing this fall.

That is great, if true. But the report that he was out was in the DMN-not merely a rumor.

Fall must have really buckled down over the summer. Perhaps this is a sign of Doherty's influence on the program.

I worry about an institution that can not add 3 or 4 small numbers and divide by same. A recalculation of grades is a pretty big strectch. If I were NCAA I might want to get my calculator and visit the campus. I hope that Bamba will be playing but this is very strange to me.

The way I'm hearing it, "miscalculation" is not quite the right term. The way I understood it, he was not as bad off academically as we initially were led to believe, and yes, he did buckle down and kick some major tail in the classroom this summer.
Way to go, Bamba!

So if he is avail to play, wonder if Doh still wants that 6'11" recruit we were talking about, or if he was a body filler for bamba?

This would be fantastic news. My fear was that we'd lost him forever.

You would think that Doh knew Bamba was eligible before inviting Josh Crawford to visit this week.

Knowing Coach Doherty -- a little -- I would bet that he's very much aware of the academic standing of every player he has, in terms of overall GPA and their progress in each class. Coach D strikes me as a man who doesn't MISS (edit) many details on anything.

my point is, then maybe Fall did not pass, I mean it was in the DMN, you think they would have gotten it from someone in the know.....

There are a lot of coaches who subscribe to the theory that "you can't teach height." I would expect that if this recruit can play, Coach Doherty will find a place for him. Can't have too many big guys with skill (and Rackauskas is graduating next year, isn't he?)

Sorry, but I cant really help you at this moment. The last thing I heard was that Bamba was ineligible, and I havent heard anything to the contrary. I will admit that I havent been looking for any updates on Bamba, I've been at work most of the last 2 days and havent had time to ask around. I'll try to check up on Monday.

The DMN article was based on a press release put out by the athletic department, so I think they should be "someone in the know". Bamba was ineligible as of last wednesday, if he got a grade changed then he could be eligible again. For purposes of playing this semester, the school must certify him as eligible before classes start (Wednesday?) or he still cant play. So, there's just a couple of days to put the paperwork in.
Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.
