I'm with you, but my question is similar to yours. Why would they have different standards for bball and fball?
I have no idea if there are different standards, but it's not as uncommon as you'd believe if there are. ADs play politics and favorites all the time. At Maryland, football is treated very differently then hoops in every way imaginable, not just recruiting. One thing I know, is that Turner isn't the type of kid hoops believes they are allowed to recruit, much less offer etc. If football can grab a kid like that, why isn't hoops allowed to recruit KC Ross Miller? He'd solve our PG problems next year w/an elite talent that is local.

probably not, but we'll never know b/c we couldn't even give it a run. Same w/Tony Mitchell and countless others like Danny Lawhorn etc

The Ponies' best passer is Papa Dia. But personally, I want him to be receiving more passes than handing them out.

I'm going to modify a statement I made a few weeks ago about SMU not recruiting from schools reputed to be "diploma mills" one of which cited was Genesis One. In fact, I forgot Dereck Williams went to Genesis One in his first year out of high school. So there is another category of academically marginal players and another example of SMU bending over to get kids into the basketball program. Just wanted to correct the record because I said SMU hadn't (and shouldn't) recruit from such schools.

Bennie Rhodes went to Zion and Leslee Smith is from Humble Christian Life. SMU basketball can make a play at those places, provided the transcripts aren't cooked, as long as it's not in our backyard ie God's Academy. Still, there are plenty of kids we can't recruit b/c of grades, not only in high school, but JUCO.

And still awaiting a condensed "non-exclusive i.e I dont read PM's on this site" reason why SMU's restrictions are hampering Doherty's ability to bring a decent team on the floor after 4 years. By this rationale, Mike Dement Sr. should be coach of Kentucky, NC or Duke because he sure the hell put better teams and actual NCAA tourney teams (albeit, bubble teams) on the court. This would make him something of a miracle worker, no?

And I will avoid you and Stallion's sword fight on which schools SMU can or cannot do business with with regards to our prospective recruits. I just like to focus on the more simple, big picture issues...like winning and how this affects it or not. I don't have enough grey matter to follow the whole "degree mill " excitement.
