Re: Best SMU Team Since 93!Hoop fan, good observation about Papa Dia staying out of foul trouble the majority of the year. He has become a very special player in his four seasons at SMU. Who are some of the better "post players" you have seen at SMU.
Re: Best SMU Team Since 93!Have you seen that 2012 Zach LeDay from Skyline play? The kid's a baller, and has a big strong body for a junior. Great all around player, excellent defender and can score the ball....I saw him nearly single handedly bring Skyline back this year aganst Berkner, they were ranked fairly high in the state this year.
Re: Best SMU Team Since 93!I'm a fan of Delay, and the staff is certainly aware. I know they like him, as he played very well at elite camp. This is an exceptionally weak year in Texas, and he's a legit prospect, but I get the feeling the bulk of our class will be from California or somewhere else. Big issue w/Delay is what position does he project at the next level. Either way, Delay is a pretty good use of one of our ships, I'd think
Re: Best SMU Team Since 93!Any relation to Lucky or Tom ?
Re: Best SMU Team Since 93!
Tom and I share a high school Alma mater.
Re: Best SMU Team Since 93!
as does freshman state rep Connie Scott
Re: Best SMU Team Since 93!
...have no clue on that, but the kid I saw was called LeDay.
Re: Best SMU Team Since 93!haha, that's my bad. I screwed up the spelling. Somehow I doubt a 6'7ish black guy is related to any of the Delays anyway.
Decent leDay clips on youtube, btw
Re: Best SMU Team Since 93!Lol you say that, but hell now days you just never know!! Lol
Re: Best SMU Team Since 93!Wow over holiday tournament found out LeDay will be at The Colony next year; they should be really good.
Re: Best SMU Team Since 93!
lol, forte has himself quite the program. I'll say this, Leday needs a big July, cause he's sorta an unknown outside of Texas. Can't imagine he has that many quality offers at this point. Moving to the Mustangs should help him as well. Surprised he didn't move to Assault, if he's playing at The Colony. Anyway, I hope we're active w/the kid. Good player
Re: Best SMU Team Since 93!
Agree that team was more talented, but just fell apart to close the season. This past year's team was fun to watch the way they finished. It's time for SMU hoops, like football, to show year over year improvement until we are back to top 25 caliber hoops
Re: Best SMU Team Since 93!
Last year was fun, loved the watching the system implemented. Now it's time to roll out a deep roster w/high end athletes. Hopefully, a considerably better schedule this year. We need to keep moving on the trail, too. '12 isn't the time to flub a class. Gotta keep moving the whole thing forward
Re: Best SMU Team Since 93!Totally agree on that point 'can't afford to flub 2012'...could be the year(s) to begin to turn the corner and break into the national scene. So whose on the radar for '12? Any commitments / offers yet?
Re: Best SMU Team Since 93!
Not that many offers, but those will come this month. We're top 2 for D'Andre Wright who I like. Skilled big w/high major ability that's been hurt and plays for an under the radar AAU club. Prob have to beat Tulsa and Creighton for him, so that could be interesting. I fear that we're looking for role player types, cause they think we have future stars on the team. For the first time in forever, they've had to deal w/the playing time issue. Only since Cannen/Jalen/Cotton/Shawn became Mustangs, has an SMU offer been seen as a hot ticket locally. Not one year later, some of these kids want in, but realize they may not get burn at the local CUSA school early, which presents a new dilemma. For example, Zach LeDay, the kid you've brought up a few times, is a good prospect. That said, he's not as good a prospect as any of the kids who would be in front of him. That doesn't mean he wouldn't develop into a better player, but nobody trades Cunningham/Jones/Williams/Smith for Leday straight up. I'm not sure Leday is better prospect than Norman either, although he has more physical tools. In reality, unless it all falls apart, a kid like LeDay is basically spot contributing until junior year or so. That's a very different sell than we've had these past few.
