You have to take a lot of what KState fans are saying with a grain of salt. Most of the time, the player leaving the team gets bashed by the die hards. I'll just say this about McCoy. I was at almost every game his freshman year & he was a real joy to watch. He wasn't a fit here, just like Russell wasn't with KState. I have to laugh about your comments about Killen. Great guy, enjoyed watching him play his Sr. year. Let's not talk about his earlier years @ SMU. I will say that finding the right blend of talent is always a difficult challenge for the coaches. The norm is to jump @ the best talent you can find. Sometimes it just doesn't work out with the chemistry. I'm just saying that Russell is more talented than everyone you mentioned with the exception of McCoy. I'll call that a draw. Is he a cancer? Who knows. Personally, I like the French dude if he has 4 years left over 2 years of Russell. But if Russell falls into the Ponies lap for 3 additional years. (1 sitting out, & 2 on the court), that's not a bad thing either. Frenchie or Russell, a good situation either way IMO.
Papa, Good point! And to Nick's credit, he didn't blast the coaching staff or sing like a canary on the way out of town. McCoy was a joy to watch his first year. It seemed like they had to "beg" him to play after that and it showed. Russell does have a really good upside. JK is still my guy - worked his tail off, great leadership, and adjusted to point guard while having "huge" games that led to victory -UTEP being one nof the them. He also was a great student.

Papa, Good point! And to Nick's credit, he didn't blast the coaching staff or sing like a canary on the way out of town. He isn't the second coming of Tony Allen ( OC Thunder) but could be outstanding if he absorbs what the coaching staff tells him how hard he has to work and what he needs to work on starting this summer. As you know, lots of talented players think they got all the answers thanks to what their friends and mom are telling them. McCoy was a joy to watch his first year. It seemed like they had to "beg" him to play after that and it showed. Russell does have a really good upside. I'm beginning to really dig you, Harry. That was one crazy double post, that's actually not quite a double post. Impressive.
Who do you take Harry, french kid for 4, or local star for 2?

ADD: Take them both and figure it out later. LOL! That is what most college coaches do.

I'd take Nick Russell in a heartbeat. He was recruited by SMU out of high school, so the interest should still be there. Part of competing as a mid-major is accepting transfers from the big schools. Nick has talent, the other schools to offer him out of high school according to rivals were: Colorado State, Florida State, Iowa, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, and UCLA
Dallas Mavericks - 2011 NBA CHAMPIONS!
Long live the Circle of Champions!

and, for the class of 2009 we will have on our roster the #3 (Williams) and #12 (Russell) in Texas, and will have passed up on on #5 (Franklin)

It's nice to (potentially) be so lucky as to be choosing between a French big with 4 years to give us who originally signed in the BE, or a former local Top 100 who's transferring from K-State. All in all, not a bad position to be in.
I say this knowing absolutely knowing if both want in and we have to choose.

Anyone heard anything new? Personally, I hope it works out for Doherty.

Hoopmax; This says lots about you. Can you first take time to thank Justin Haynes for helping us win 20 games this year? Can you thank him for being a good citizen on and off the floor? Is this how you operate - on to the next one and I can help. This is what bothers me! I would take Justin Haynes back in a second. He does have a heart and soul and good family background. Can't you just say "we have a scholarship to give ( which only the coaches know, not you) and we should take a look at Russell. Here is my observation based on seeing him play. Is that too hard to do?

I would take Justin Haynes back. Your not really one of my favorites hoopmax. You seem to think you know it all about Duke, Kansas, etc. You might want to consider a new profession- working for the tabloids. They normally get about 90 percent of the story correct and then put their own spin on it. Based on this years group of players, I trust Coach Doh and the staff that they will do just fine without your help.

What is so funny about taking Justin Haynes back? He plays extremely hard, great young man, and has experience. He helped us win 20 games. Don't you love how hoopmax gets so defensive and has to tell us his lifestory everytime he opens his mouth on this board? What he is great at is talking about his self and then bringing up all the dirt on Duke, Kansas, Nick Russell, etc. Then after the fact ( Justin Haynes) he announces that he knew that weeks ago. So did half of SMU and Dallas.
Does he have a life? The biggest turn off in life are "self-centered people who normally have short man's complex. WG doesn't - he is a rather large guy but I have dealt with many types of these people. It normally goes back to their childhood and they never doing anything wrong according to the mama and dad. WG thinks because he supposedly has a good job that it gives him the right to chirp. We see his type everyday.

Hoopmax, once again for the record. I don't dig you. You were talking about 1965. Wasn't that term used back then? You are truly a legend in your own mind. I wasn't speaking about all agents by the way, there are some very good ones who truly care about their clients. There are some good posters who don't spend 3/4 of the post talking about themselves and how important they are and all the "dirt" on Duke, etc. Again, I am an SMU fan and Matt Dohery fan. Hopefully you will never hear anything negative about any player, administration member, or incoming reruit. You put your "spin" on things I supposedly said like about Nick Russell. I never one time said anything negative about him. If SMU decided to offer and he accepts, I am on board and hopes that he has a great career. I don't claim to "know it all" about him and you are a prime example about putting words in people's mouth and talking about other programs and all the "dirt" that you read in a newspaper. I will admit my information normally comes from newspapers or reliable sources but I have a life besides basketball and football. SMU is a tough job in my opinion because of high academic standards and then keeping players eligible in relationship to other schools in our league.
