Most intriguing part of the article: Sutton, who has guided ORU to a 250-162 record, three NCAA Tournament appearances and two NIT berths in his 13 seasons, is considered a candidate for Tulsa’s coaching vacancy. TU is expected to begin contacting candidates this weekend.
Sutton also has been mentioned in connection with SMU’s vacancy.

My preceding statements were in no way meant to be seen as an endorsement of Phil Bennett's term as coach here lol.

Phil Bennett has forgotten more about basketball than any of these other coaches will ever know?

Love the clip of Buzz making the half court shot during warm ups at the tourney. Don't know how to post a YouTube clip but perhaps someone should do it. Bring fun back to SMU Basketball!

I think the odds of SMU getting stuck with a coach from UTA or UTSA or UT Mexico or UT Laredo are almost zero.
Do unto others before they do unto you!!

This is an interesting article -- gives a lot of background information on WIlliams: Seems like the Marquette fans were not that excited about Williams when he was named head coach: The armchair athletic directors wanted a headliner, a front man to replace the one they'd just lost, a basketball coach who could generate off-the-bat buzz. Instead, they got Buzz.
Three months later, Marquette athletic director Steve Cottingham still hears it from alums who wanted him to make a big-splash coaching hire after losing Tom Crean to Indiana. Guard Jerel McNeal still gets asked about the little-known coach who will steward his senior season with the Golden Eagles.
Big names like Washington State's Tony Bennett and Xavier's Sean Miller came up, but Cottingham chose Williams after just a six-day search and awarded him a six-year contract. Skepticism greeted the hiring. Many thought the school could have hooked a higher-profile candidate to succeed Crean, whose name constantly had come up for other jobs since the team's Final Four run in 2003.
Also, WIlliams took a big risk before when he gave up his Div I head coaching position to take an assistant coach position at Marquette: There was the issue of Williams' lone prior head-coaching stop, a one-year stint at a program still recovering after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Williams maintains that his decision to resign from New Orleans last July was based solely on personal reasons, not professional ones, adding that the situation there was "not unstable."
Added Crean: "He took a real leap of faith. He did not believe in the way things were going there, and he was excited about what we were doing. I looked at it as we'd be fortunate to have him for two, three years at the most, and then he'd be a head coach again."
Williams knew there was risk in giving up a Division I head-coaching job.
"I actually discouraged him," Gillispie said. "I thought he would be better off to make the most of his opportunity there. I said the only reason he would leave is because of family considerations, and obviously that was the reason. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/columns/story?columnist=rittenberg_adam&id=3462454He sounds very organized, an all around good person and a great coach, I hope we get him.

Not everyone agrees: Where does the Marquette coach fit in with the esteemed coaches here in the West Region?
In short, he doesn’t.
Williams, 39, is the youngest and admittedly least successful of the four coaches with their teams here. To be fair to Williams, it’s tough company to keep. Between Michigan State’s Tom Izzo, Louisville’s Rick Pitino and Florida’s Billy Donovan, the other coaches in the region have 25 appearances in the Sweet 16, 14 Final Four appearances and four national championships.

Haha, what?! No kidding he doesn't stack up against the coaches in the West! Izzo, Pitino, and Donovan? Each has at least 1 National Championship, each has at least 3 Final Fours. Buzz is 5 years into his coaching career, with 1 at a school that was transitioning into D1. There is no comparison. Just because he doesn't measure up to 3 of the best coaches in the entire country, all future Hall of Fame coaches, does not mean he isn't the best name that is being thrown around. SIlly.

The agent can leak and the coach can deny. Its all a perfect smokey system. Hey go for the gusto, Boeheim. He's mad at Syracuse for leaving the BE. Mad at them for making him fire his buddy, Bernie. Mad about the disqualification of Fab Melo. He's a certified coaching genius with his match-up zone defense. He'd be the ultimate out of the blue, big hire.
But in this case, there is no agent, so your logic fails. Buzz does not have an agent.
