lol, Dave Dickerson would be hysterically bad. He's the same guy that saw Kevin Durant as a soph in hs, when Dickerson was at Maryland, and told the kid he's not ACC material. He gets crushed everywhere he goes for that. Its a lasting, albeit funny, legacy

mrydel- with all due respect. There were very few first tier coaches available. Buzz, Frank Martin, guy from Illi, etc. Didn't mean to imply that they all turned us down. We have no idea who SO has talked to. My point was that we can't just fart around for a couple of months to do something. Obviously by then most all top level, top quality coaches will have made changes. I don't know about you but I am not at all pleased with the idea of having to settle for third tier coaches from minor conferences. IMO if that happens we will just remain irrelevant or worse when we move to the BEAST.

Just wait until the end of next week. Orsini is doing his job as we speak. Whether he does it well will be determined over time. Again, most everyone thought Doherty was a slam dunk hire. I would rather he do it right than do it quickly (TWSS).

Other than Buzz, they are not going to pay that type of money to other candidates IMO.

His job is to do it both right & quickly, it's not either/or. Too much at stake

Right AND quickly would be a nice combination.

TCU is going to be looking as well. We'd better get this right, and it would be even better if they get it wrong

To some degree, Orsini is more of an influencer than actually having the final say so in hiring the HC. The three significant donors have the most authority in the final decision since they are the ones footing the bill. That's just the way it is.

In the last 25 years, hard to say that whoever was the AD at TCI hasn't made the better coaching hires in football and basketball compared to the SMU AD.

Tired of comparison between Coaching choices pre-2008. All those Coaches would likely have taken SMU to bowl/tournament if they weren't recruiting with hand tied behind back. Everything post 2008 should be analyzed as if this is a completely different program. Doherty failed even under much easier admission standards which he used-but failed.

I agree Stallion. Doherty had enough time, under a more relaxed admissions policy to make this work and failed miserably. It will be critical for the new HC to bring in some JC and/or transfer players to strengthen our line up and better position the team to be competitive in the BEAST. Adding someone with coaching skills and a motivator won't reinvent the team on its own.
