Yeah, I guess that is right unless he was run off by Jones and left on his own.

Well I guess either way he went from a non BCS program to a BCS program. I think Coach Brown has someone ready to roll.

if we hire someone better, I will be the first person to eat crow. until then, smu needs to prove that they are committed to keeping momentum rolling in the athletic dept, and BB especially. I've been around way too long to expect too much from my alma mater in that regard. show me. prove me wrong. I expect greatness from LB (as long as he is here), but the admin always worry me.

maybe if you got out of UP every once in a while you'd get a clue. Why don't you come up to DC where I work and actually see great BB programs in Gtown/MD/George Mason/VCU.

come to my beach house in NC and we can see Duke/UNC/NCSU. When you get out of the bubble, you'll have something to compare SMU to, other than HPHS.

I'll be there in August for a wedding.

SMU isn't making the hire. LB and the money are making the hire. Whatever Howard was getting paid, the new coach will make similar bank.

It's a done deal then. Harry and I are going to NC's beach house in August.

But, but then you won't get to see all those good basketball teams in August....

When a big-money program shows interest in your coaches, that means you're doing things the right way. Congratulations, Coach Howard.

Happy for Jerrance, who moves to one of the most important college BB programs ever.

The silver lining for us is that Kansas is and can be very selective on who they recruit each year. I imagine the one's not offered, who are probably starts, might look at SMU as Plan B and Jerrance gets to make the suggestion.

Win/win/win

I am having trouble understanding why Self would esentially back stab his very good friend LB knowing Howard was a key to Brown establishing a program at SMU. Howard did not get a promotion as he is still listed as an assistant coach and not an associate head coach. I thought we were paying him more than top dollar as incentative to stay for a period of time and get the SMU program moving. I guess it is all about the $$$$$$$$.

I obviously have no knowledge to back it up, but somehow I don't think Self would have made this move without LB's blessing given their relationship. It's a loss for us, but not a fatal one, and I have a feeling LB wished Howard well and has somebody in mind to replace him. Just a gut feeling.

I have to think RyanSMU98 is exactly right. Remember the interview PonyFans.com did with Self when Brown was hired? First of all, the fact that he even flew down spoke volumes about his affection and admiration for LB. But if you listen to the interview, you can tell he holds LB in the highest regard. I assume he got LB's blessing before he even approached Howard.

FWIW, one of my few inside sources told me that LB was not at all happy about Howard's decision to join Self's staff. That said, I don't think this is going to set us back big picture. hoopmanx's post says it all.

Wonder if we might get a Philly/NYC grounded recruiter in here
